In preparation for the International Junior Youth Tournament, Japan selects players from the Nankatsu Middle School and Toho Academy Middle School teams: Tsubasa, Taro, Genzo, Kojiro, and Ken. They join some of Japan’s best players in Paris. They’ll need to beat the best teams from around the world to become champions. The competition is fierce. Let the tournament begin!

The Captain Tsubasa manga series was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 1981 and 1988, with the chapters collected into a total of 37 tankobon volumes. This was followed by various manga sequels.

The original manga series was adapted into an anime television series, produced by Tsuchida Production, broadcast on TV Tokyo from 1983 to 1986. Numerous movies and television series have followed with the latest one airing between 2018 and 2019.

Viz Media has licensed the anime which includes digital streaming, electronic sell-through (EST), home video, and merchandise rights for North America and Latin America. The English dub of the anime aired on Primo TV in the United States in August 2018.

As of 2018, the overall manga had sold over 80 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series.
