Crunchyroll issued a statement on Jan 25, 2024, addressing the leak of usernames and passwords of the platform’s Premium subscribers.
While acknowledging the incident, the company maintains that its systems were not compromised.
Crunchyroll released a statement to Anime News Network, stating: “We are aware that login credentials for several streaming services, including Crunchyroll, were posted on social media and have resolved the issue. We have secured the affected accounts, investigated the situation, and determined that there is no evidence that Crunchyroll’s systems have been compromised“.
The company urged subscribers to adopt best practices for online security, including regularly updating passwords and avoiding reuse across platforms. Subscribers with questions about account security were directed to Crunchyroll’s Customer Service Help Page.
On Jan 25, a user on the social media platform X posted a list containing usernames and passwords for numerous Crunchyroll Premium accounts.
This quickly triggered widespread concern among subscribers, with some confirming the exposure of their own account information. The account has now been suspended.
