Re:Zero Season 3 has been a blast. It was a battle oriented season to say the least. However, it is safe to say that there were mysteries that were woven into the season along with all the action – and one of those mysteries concerns Felt.
While Felt might not enjoy the same level of popularity or screentime like Emilia or Subaru, one of the biggest mysteries in Re:Zero surrounds this character. And it gains some serious traction in Arc 5.
In the battle against Gluttony, Lye Batenkaitos tries to consume Felt’s name, but fails to do so. The reason? Well, according to Lye himself, Felt was not the real name of young blonde in front of him. Atleast that is the conclusion he came to.

So, who exactly is Felt? And what is her real name? Let’s get into one of the most discussed theories in the Re:Zero fandom.
Who is Felt? Tracing the origins of the character:
As I mentioned above, Lye Batenkaitos was not able to consume Felt’s name because that was not her real name. This has naturally led to questions about her identity and her origins.
The general consensus is that Felt is the last living member of the Lugunican Royal Family – and there are multiple hints that support this assumption.
Let’s take a look at them:
The similarity in appearance:
One of the most striking pieces of evidence supporting Felt’s royal lineage is her remarkable resemblance to the former rulers of Lugunica.
In the anime and the light novels, Felt is shown to have distinct golden hair and piercing red eyes. These specific traits stand out as the hallmark of the Lugunican royal family.
This visual parallel is a building block in our bid to establish her origin. However, similarity in physical appearance is not the only hint we have.
Qualifying to be a royal candidate:
The second obvious link is the fact that Felt qualified to be a candidate for the royal selection. When Subaru is summoned to the world of Re:Zero, Felt is introduced as this thief who steals Emilia’s Royal insignia.
Interestingly, when she stole the insignia, it reacted to Felt by shining. The insignia only reacts to a person who is qualified to be a candidate for the royal selection.
Reinhard himself notices this, enlisting her in the Royal Selection. On top of that, he is one of the people within the Re:Zero universe who believes that Felt is a member of the royal family, and her royal blood is the reason why she qualified to be a candidate.
Matching timelines:
While the above two hints clearly suggest that Felt has royal blood running through her, matching the timelines of a certain incident gives us a very clear idea of who Felt really could be.
If you read my earlier post in which I break down the Astrea family dynamics, you might have noticed that I mentioned the kidnapping of a Lugunican Royal family member – which was the main reason why Wilhelm couldn’t join Theresia on the hunt for the White Whale.
Approximately fourteen years prior to Subaru’s summoning, a princess belonging to Ford Lugnica, the younger brother of the 41st King Randohal, was reported to have been kidnapped from the Royal Palace.
Interestingly, Felt was found by Old Man Rom around the same time in the Royal Capital’s slum. Due to being found as an infant, Felt does not know her exact age or birthdate but estimates it to be around fifteen.
This similarity in timelines is definitely hard to ignore – which leads us to assume that Felt is this missing princess of the Royal Family.
Additionally, Rom was the one who gave Felt her name. If we are willing to go into tinfoily territories, there is slight similarity between “Ford” and “Felt,” particularly in Japanese (“Forudo” and “Feruto”).
Felt’s real name, which was given by her father Ford Lugunica, remains unknown till date. And this was the reason why Lye Batenkaitos was unable to eat her name or memories.
When you put all the hints in context, it becomes very clear that Felt indeed is the last living member of the Royal Family.
No matter how solid the assumption looks, this is just a widely accepted theory for now. However, Tappei Nagatsuki, the author of Re:Zero, did say that we will get an arc that is focused on Felt in the future. This arc will probably confirm her origins and give us some much needed answers.
For instance, who really kidnapped Felt? Was the witch cult involved in it somehow? Or are our assumptions completely wrong?
Interestingly, the fact that Reinhard is Felt’s knight is also a detail that connects some dots. Her kidnapping was a crucial incident which broke down his family, and now he is acting as her knight. Sasuga Tappei!
