The official website of Studio Ghibli Fes 2022 has opened online bookings for the theatrical screening of Only Yesterday anime film in the U.S. The release of the Studio Ghibli films in the U.S theatres is presented by GKIDS.
Only Yesterday film will premiere in the U.S on Aug 28, 2022. It will only run for two days, till Aug 29, 2022.
The film will be screened in both Japanese and English dub. Moreover, an exclusive footage from “Hayao Miyazaki and the Ghibli Museum,” a 2005 documentary, will be available to watch outside Japan for the first time.
GKIDS describes plot for Only Yesterday as:
It’s 1982, and Taeko is 27 years old, unmarried, and has lived her whole life in Tokyo. She decides to visit her relatives in the countryside, and as the train travels through the night, memories flood back of her younger years: the first immature stirrings of romance, the onset of puberty, and the frustrations of math and boys. At the station she is met by young farmer Toshio, and the encounters with him begin to reconnect her to forgotten longings. In lyrical switches between the present and the past, Taeko contemplates the arc of her life, and wonders if she has been true to the dreams of her childhood self.
In addition to Only Yesterday, GKIDS is bringing various other Ghibli films to screen in the U.S. Here are some of the Ghibli Fes 2022 film line-ups:

- Spirited Away: Oct 30, Nov 1 & 2

The festival had kicked off with a 25th-anniversary screening of the Academy Award-winning classic Princess Mononoke on April 3, 4, and 6, followed by a 20th-anniversary screening of The Cat Returns on June 26 and 27.
Ponyo was screened in May, Kiki’s Delivery Service in July.

Studio Ghibli Inc. is a Japanese animation film studio headquartered in Koganei, Tokyo. It is best known for its animated feature films and has also produced several short subjects, television commercials, and one television film.
Its mascot and most recognizable symbol is a character named Totoro, a giant catlike spirit from the 1988 anime film My Neighbor Totoro.
Among the studio’s highest-grossing films are Spirited Away (2001), Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), and Ponyo (2008). The studio was founded on June 15, 1985, by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki, after the successful performance of Topcraft’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). It has also collaborated with video game studios on the visual development of several games.
