One Piece Film Red sailed past its previous record of 7 billion yen to reach 8 billion yen in a short span of time and continued being the highest grossing film of the franchise. The news was announced at the stage event for the movie at Toei Maronuchi theatre.
The movie has sold 5.7 million tickets as of Aug 18, 2022. The movie has become the second movie to ever reach 8 billion yen so fast in Japanese Box Office history. The first movie to do that was Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train.
The movie’s world premiere was held on July 22, which also celebrated as the One Piece Day

Goro Taniguchi returns to the franchise for the first time since 1998 to direct One Piece Film: Red. Tsutomu Kuroiwa will be in charge of the screenplay. TOEI Animation is animating the film with original author Eiichiro Oda serving as executive producer.
The movie features and centers on the mysterious character Uta, who is teased to be Shanks daughter in the teaser. Uta’s character design was revealed on March 28, 2022.
The movie also became the highest grossing anime film in European country of France.
Filmgoers will also receive a manga “ONE PIECE Comics-Volume 4 billion RED“. The comic will feature various character settings, story settings, music information in the film, etc. The manga will have limited number copies (3 million).
