No Game No Life Creator Debunks Season 2 Rumors; Calls Them Baseless

No Game No Life No season 2

Fans of No Game No Life were recently stirred by rumors of a second season of the anime. After being denied a sequel for a decade, the fans happily gobbled up the rumors that were circulating online.

However, the author of the series’ light novels, Yuu Kamiya, quickly addressed the speculation, confirming that the rumors are baseless.

What the author said:

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kamiya responded to an overwhelming number of direct messages from fans seeking clarification.

Good morning. I woke up to an absurd number of DMs, but it’s just a baseless rumor, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t contact me about it,” Kamiya posted, putting an end to the frenzy.

Mashiro Hiiragi, artist of No Game No Life and Yuu Kamiya’s wife, also added her voice to the conversation, humorously pointing out that any legitimate news about the series would not have escaped their notice.

Yeah, I figured as much. I was surprised for a moment, but then I calmed down and thought, ‘There’s no way I wouldn’t know about something like this,’” she wrote.

The Origin of the Rumors

The rumors seemed to originate from the now-deleted X account @tokei3n, which claimed that Madhouse, the anime’s original studio, had adopted a new strategy focusing on producing sequels, including No Game No Life.

This claim likely stemmed from a recent interview with Kadokawa, the publisher of No Game No Life‘s novels and manga, which stated that the company planned to focus more on producing sequels and additional episodes of popular series rather than increasing the number of adaptations.

This isn’t the first time Yuu Kamiya has addressed the status of a potential second season. In a previous X post, Kamiya revealed how often he is asked about the matter.

I have been asked: ‘Will there be a second season of No Game No Life?’ so many times from all over the world, that now I can even know what they are asking me even without having to translate it,” Kamiya wrote. “The answer is always the same: I, as an author, would also like to know.

Despite fans’ enthusiasm and the series’ enduring popularity, the likelihood of a second season remains uncertain.

In April 2024, during the anime’s 10th anniversary, Kamiya himself joined the call by posting, “Please make a second season ♥.”

No Game No Life series follows a group of human gamers seeking to beat the god of games at a series of boardgames in order to usurp the god’s throne.

Yuu Kamiya has published the light novels through Kadokawa publishing house’s MF Bunko J imprint since April 2012.

The author and his wife adapted the novels into a manga series for Monthly Comic Alive in 2013.

The light novel inspired a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Madhouse Studios, directed by Atsuko Ishizuka and scripts written by Jukki Hanada , released in April 2014.

The feature film No Game No Life: Zero featured the same production team which released in Japan on July 15, 2017.
