A recent comment by Eiichiro Oda, which was posted on the official Twitter account of the upcoming One Piece‘s live action series, revealed that the series won’t be launched until he was satisfied.

“Netflix has committed enormous resources to the production. It was announced that the show will launch in 2023, but they’ve promised that we won’t launch until I’m satisfied.“

Though Oda has been closely working with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix for the live-action series, there are times when they aren’t on the same wavelength even with the end goal being the same.

This could, according to Oda, be due to the cultural difference, with each having different code, skill sets and aims when it came to their own entertainment. This eventually led to Oda being sceptical regarding the foreign production of his world-wide acclaimed manga One Piece.

However, things have now turned for the better as each and everyone involved are on a sync as compared to when they first started out.

According to Oda, the reason he agreed to the live-action adaptation was because this was his one last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world considering his expected life span, and that he wanted to be able to supervise it while he was still active.

He also confirmed that the series will have a total of 8 episodes.

We’ll be setting sail very soon!!“

It was previously revealed that the live-action adaptation won’t be a carbon copy of the original work.

The live action adaptation was under production in South Africa since Feb 1, 2022.

The One Piece live-action cast includes Iñaki Godoy, who portrays Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar will play Sanji. Colton Osorio will portray a young Luffy.

Furthermore, Peter Gadiot will play Shanks, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, and Vincent Regan as Garp.

The other cast members include:

• Steven Ward as Mihawk
• Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff
• Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan
• Celeste Loots as Kaya
• Chioma Umeala as Nojiko

The live-action will be adapting the East-Blue Saga from the One Piece manga and then “broaden from there”. Matt Owens will serve as the upcoming show’s writer, while Steven Maeda and Becky Clements will be executive producers along with Eiichiro Oda.

Netflix will exclusively stream the series, produced by Tomorrow Studios, a partnership between producer Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios.
