Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga has attained a new milestone as the series hit the half billion mark in cumulative circulation numbers. The manga currently has over 510 million copies in circulation worldwide, including all its 102 volumes.
Out of this, over 410 million copies of the manga, both physical and digital, are in circulation in Japan. The manga had reached 490 million copies in circulation worldwide on July 2021.
The manga’s Guinness World Record for “The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author” has also been updated to the latest Japanese circulation number of 416,566,000 copies as of July 2022
Circulation represents the number of copies of a manga that were printed and circulated, and doesn’t represent the sales numbers.
One Piece continues to retain its title as the best-selling manga series in history, and the best-selling comic series printed in book volume (cumulative).
It was the best selling manga for 11 eleven consecutive years from 2008-2018, before being beaten by Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer in 2019.
It is the only manga that had an initial print of volumes of above 3 million continuously for more than 10 years, as well as the only one that had achieved more than 1 million copies sold in all of its 100 published tankōbon volumes.
One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 1997.
The manga has entered its final arc, with Oda promising to draw all secrets in the world of One Piece from now on.
It recently celebrated its 25th anniversary on July 22, 2022, with a world premiere of the One Piece Film Red and other events held over the course of two days.
The 100th manga volume shipped on Sep 3, 2021. Oda published the 1,000th chapter in this year’s combined 5th/6th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on Jan 4, 2022.
