Fumi Hirano and Toshio Furukawa, who voiced Lum and Ataru in the original Urusei Yatsura have joined the cast of the new Urusei Yatsura anime, as revealed by the official website on Oct 6, 2022.

Apart from these two, the voice actors of Yamato from Naruto and Hitomi Kisugi from Cat’s Eye have also been added to the impressive cast list of the upcoming anime.

The newly announced cast members along with their character visual and comments are as follows:

It was a long time ago when I heard that a new “Urusei Yatsura” version of Reiwa would be produced with a different cast, that he had been offered the role of Ataru’s father, and that Hiroshi Kamiya would be playing Ataru. At that time, I remember saying to her, “At any rate, it is good that the role of Ataru will be succeeded by someone from the same office.

As for the role of the father, it is not easy to continue working as a regular actor for the rest of my life, so I was simply happy about that.

When I saw Mr. Kamiya come out of the studio with a smile on his face after the recording, I felt a sense of relief, like a parent, and I felt that it was finally about to begin.

I am very honoured to be invited to work on a work with a nostalgic title.
Also, Mr. Toshio Furukawa, who I haven’t seen in a long time, plays Ataru’s father, so it’s a pleasure to work with him as a married couple.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Fumi Hirano, who plays Lum-chan’s mother, for the first time in a long time. I feel that they are all legends, and their voices are always the same. Please enjoy the show.

I was so surprised and grateful to be asked to play a role in the new version of “Urusei Yatsura”… ! The first recording is a co-starring scene with Keiko Toda for the first time in a while. It was a fun and unavoidable exchange because she gave me a very relaxed performance.

However, Ram-chan Mama actually speaks in her own language (⁉) even on Earth! I was in a cold sweat inside because of the difficult lines. Due to the time of the year, we were unable to have a a parent-daughter collaboration in the recording, but from what I saw of the artwork, I can say that the parent and the daughter are indeed one and the same! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product as a fan. As a fan, I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

The technical cast for the series includes Hideya Takahashi and Yasuhiro Kimura as directors, with Yuuko Kakihara as script writer. Naoyuki Asano will serve as character designer.

Urusei Yatsura anime is scheduled to release on Oct 13, 2022 and will release new episode every Thursday. The animation of the series is undertaken by David Production.

MAISONdes is performing both the opening theme “Aiue feat. Minami, SAKURAmoti,” and the ending theme “Tokyo Shandy Rendezvous feat. Hanafu, Tsumiki”.

The Urusei Yatsura manga was the first work of Rumiko Takahashi to be published in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 1978 to 1987. It has 366 individual chapter, 6 movies, 12 OVAs. The series received 195 episodes long anime series which ran from Oct 14, 1981 to March 19, 1986 produced by Kitty Films.

Viz Media published the manga series in English in North America in the 1990s by renaming it to Lum and The Return of Lum. However, they dropped it after 9 volumes.
