The official Twitter account of Solo Leveling webtoon’s illustrator, Jang-Sung-Rak (aka DUBU), posted an update on Wednesday, Dec 29, 2021, revealing the series has come to an end after 179 chapters.
The final chapter was posted on Dec 29, 2021, via the KakaoPage service.
DUBU ended the chapter with a thank you and goodbye note which he posted on Twitter. He thanks all the readers and support staff that made the series possible in a bittersweet author’s note. His full statement is as follows:
In addition, D&C Media, the web novel publisher, announced a special Solo Leveling OST project in collaboration with THE BOYZ K-Pop band for February 2022. A teaser for the project is also available.
Solo Leveling , also alternatively translated as Only I Level Up, is a South Korean web novel written by Chugong. It started serializing in Kakao’s digital comic and fiction platform KakaoPage on July 25, 2016, and was later published by D&C Media under their Papyrus label on Nov 4, 2016.
The manhwa ended in 2018, after 270 chapters, compiled into 14 volumes. Webnovel licensed it in English, but under the Only I Level Up title.
The webtoon adaptation by Jang-Sung-Rak (aka Dubu), the CEO of Redice Studio, originally started on KakaoPage in Korea and has 2 seasons. In addition to Webnovel, Tappytoon and PocketComics also offer it in English. Yen Press licensed the webtoon and published a volume in paperback format earlier this year. In addition to the webtoon, a game is also in development, along with a drama adaptation.
Webnovel describes the series as:
In this world where Hunters with various magical powers battle monsters from invading the defenceless humanity, Seong Jin-Woo was the weakest of all the Hunters, barely able to make a living.
However, a mysterious System grants him the power of the ‘Player’, setting him on a course for an incredible and often times perilous Journey.
Follow Sang Jin-Woo as he embarks on an adventure to become an unparalleled existence through his “Level-Up” system – the only one in the entire world!
