The 10th Tokyo Anime Award Festival’s (TAAF2023) official website revealed the list of 101 best anime of 2022 on Dec 5. The list was curated based on votes by the fans.

Between the period of Nov 1, to Dec 2, 2022, a total of 75,828 votes were cast as part of “Everyone’s Choice Best 100” . Each person could cast his vote once and could select up to three titles in each category (favorite anime, best anime and anime they would recommend to others).

Since two anime had the same number of votes, 101 anime were included in this year’s results. Out of these, 81 titles are anime series and 20 are anime movies.

Another round of voting will decide the winners of Anime Fan Award (voted by fans) and Best Film (voted by industry professional) from among the best 101 anime of 2022 that were chosen. This voting will start from Jan 6, 2023.

TAAF2023 is set to be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from March 10 to 13, 2023.

Its aim is “discovering and developing new talent, contributing to the promotion of the animation culture/industry, and conveying the appeal of Tokyo as promoting tourism in the city.”

The Tokyo Anime Awards started in 2002 but was named in 2005. The first, second and third award ceremonies were simply named ‘Competition’.The award ceremonies were held at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) until 2013.

In 2014, after the merger of the Tokyo International Anime Fair with the Anime Contents Expo and the formation of the AnimeJapan convention, the Tokyo Anime Awards was changed into a separate festival called Tokyo Anime Awards Festival (TAAF).
