Promare Anime Film Returns To Theatres To Celebrate The Sale Of One Million Tickets

The film will also be celebrating its third anniversary.

The official website for the 2019 anime film Promare by Studio Trigger and XFLAG announced on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, that the film will re-open in 11 theaters in Japan starting May 27 to commemorate its third anniversary and having sold 1 million tickets.

Prior to the theatrical release, the film will be available to stream for free on XFLAG’s YouTube channel on May 24 at 6:30 p.m. JST during the “Promare 3rd Anniversary Online Party Produced by MIXI” event.

Director Hiroyuki Imaishi and scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima, as well as character designer Shigeto Koyama and creative producer/art director Hiromi Wakabayashi, will be in attendance.

Promare is a 2019 Japanese animated film co-produced by Trigger and XFLAG. It was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima. It features character and mecha designs by Shigeto Koyama, 3DCG animation by Sanzigen, and music by Hiroyuki Sawano. The film was released on May 24, 2019, in Japan, by Toho Animation.

In Japan, the film premiered in 200 theatres in May 2019 and debuted at #8 in its first weekend. In October 2019, the film added 4DX screenings.

At the 2019 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the film was selected as one of the ten films. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature — Independent at the 47th Annie Awards, but lost to Jérémy Clapin‘s I Lost My Body.
