Lycoris Recoil Anime Changes Episode 11 Illustrations To Prevent Fans From Copying Harmful Portrayal

Earlier visuals featured characters with Spider Lily Flowers.

The official website of Lycoris Recoil anime revealed that they have replaced the eye-catch visuals from Episode 11 so that fans won’t copy the harmful habits that were portrayed in them.

Eye-catch are illustrations that are displayed at the start and end of a commercial break in an episode.

The new illustrations in Episode 11 as shown on Crunchyroll and streaming platforms in Japan are as follows.

The original eye-catch illustrations portrayed main characters from Lycoris Recoil anime, Chisato and Takina, smoking Spider Lily flowers. This habit is pretty harmful in reality as the flowers are poisonous.

“The illustration is based on an image of the work’s worldview, and features a character holding a cluster amaryllis in her mouth. However, please do not imitate this illustration in any way, as cluster amaryllis is a toxic plant,” the announcement on the website read.

The same scenes are present in the opening theme of the anime too, however, the staff said that they won’t be replacing the illustrations there in order to respect the intentions of the creators.

Lycoris Recoil is an original anime series created by Spider Lily and Asaura. The series is animated by A-1 Pictures. Episode 13 of the anime aired on Sep 24, 2022, in Japan.

MAL describes the plot of the anime as follows:

The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as killers to carry out assassinations under their “Lycoris” program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations—LycoReco, a cafe in disguise.

Takina’s new partner, however, turns out to be quite different from what she imagined. Despite being the famed Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi appears almost unconcerned with her duties. She drags Takina along on all kinds of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is even more puzzled when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA—but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them.
