While Todo’s cross-dressing part was well received in Japan, it received backlash from Arab fans, who cited that cross-dressing was a sin in Islamic religion.

In the wake of this backlash, JJK Season 2 animator Shota Shigetsugu, who was criticized for giving the idea for Todo’s cross-dressing scene, apologized to fans via X (formerly Twitter).

In his now deleted post, Shigetsugu wrote “I had wondered why so much criticism came from the Islamic world, when it was so well received in Japan, but I was convinced when I learned that cross-dressing is a sin in religion and therefore there is a strong sense of rejection of such things. I apologize for any discomfort this may cause you.”

The animator also said he wanted to write the post in Arabic, but he wasn’t sure if the translation was done properly, and so he chose to stick with English itself.

After Shigetsugu apologized, some fans, who claimed they were Muslims, came forward to defend the animator saying that getting upset over cross-dressing, in an anime which was about sorcery was a very stupid reaction.

Someone else pointed out that the very same people who are complaining about Todo crossdressing, were also the one’s who would have no issue watching a fan-service anime.

In the end, they asked Shigetsugu to ignore the criticism from the “trash” fans.
