Japanese voice actor Yuichiro Umehara surprised fans this week by revealing he’s been married since 2016.

The news comes after Umehara, known for his roles in Goblin Slayer, The Misfit of Demon King Academy, Black Clover, among others, was seen earlier this month entering a cafe in Tokyo’s downtown area with a woman, who sources identified as his wife.

Following the public sighting, reporters approached Umehara, and he openly addressed the situation. The voice actor confirmed that he has been married for several years, having tied the knot in his mid-twenties. He explained that his wife is a college sweetheart and they’ve been together for a long time.

“It’s true (that I’m married). I got married when I was 25 or 26. (My wife) is a friend from college, so we’ve been dating for a long time. We’re the same age.“

When questioned about the reason for not announcing his marriage earlier, Umehara explained that the decision to keep his marriage private came after discussions with his agency and a desire to separate his professional and personal lives.

“Well, yeah. I talked to my agency about it at the time, and there weren’t as many voice actors who announced their marriages publicly back then. I thought of work and private life as separate things, so I didn’t originally plan to announce it.“

Umehara also expressed his regret for not informing his fans directly but emphasized his dedication to his work.

“Well, I should have told them (about my marriage) in my own words. I’m really sorry that it turned out this way. But I’m still working hard as a voice actor, Yuichiro Umehara, in my private life. I hope you’ll see that and continue to support me.“

Moreover, he also took to his Twitter account to apologize for any disturbance caused by recent media coverage as well as unexpected disclosure and assures that he will remain committed to his career as a voice actor.

“I apologize for causing any inconvenience due to recent media reports regarding myself, Yuichiro Umehara. I have refrained from disclosing details about my private life in consultation with my agency. I apologize for the disclosure in this manner. I will continue to devote myself to my work as a voice actor in the future. Thank you for your continued support.“

Yuichiro Umehara is a Japanese voice actor and singer affiliated with Arts Vision. He is best known for his roles on Goblin Slayer as Goblin Slayer, The Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 as Anos Voldigoad, Black Clover as Mars, Ensemble Stars! as Keito Hasumi, Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious as Seiya Ryuuguuin, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean as Weather Report, among others.

At the 10th Seiyu Awards, he won the Best Rookie Actors Award for his role Kuro Hazama in Young Black Jack and Wakasa in Merman in My Tub.
