Voice actor David Wald, who is known for his roles in the English dubs of anime series like Fairy Tail, Attack On Titan, and Akame Ga Kill!, has accused Crunchyroll of mishandling fan mail addressed to him over the past five years.
Taking to X on Oct 26, 2024, Wald alleged that Crunchyroll staff had opened his private mail, disposed of letters, and distributed items sent by fans without his knowledge or consent.
“If you sent me anything care of Funimation or Crunchyroll in the last 5 years, I apologize, I didn’t get it. I learned yesterday that @Crunchyroll opened my private mail, threw away your letters, and passed out any included items to their staff,” he tweeted.
In a follow-up post, Wald addressed Crunchyroll employees directly, sharing a photo of one of the opened packages and making a public request for the return of his belongings.
“Dear fellow workers at @Crunchyroll—below is a photo of the complete contents of one of the packages addressed to me that was opened and distributed to employees. If you ended up in possession of any of it, I would very much like it returned to me,” he stated.
Fans quickly reacted with anger and disbelief, expressing concerns about the legality and ethics of the alleged actions. Some followers questioned how Wald had learned of the situation, and Wald hinted that he obtained the information through sensitive sources.
He shared that he had recently acquired two unique items from a giveaway table within the company.
Many noted the potential legal implications of mishandling private mail. The lack of response from Crunchyroll, which Wald confirmed by mentioning that his emails to the company on this matter had gone unanswered, added to fans’ frustration.
Wald has voiced prominent characters across several anime series, such as Golgo 13 in Golgo 13, Gajeel Redfox in Fairy Tail, Hannes in Attack on Titan, Bulat in Akame ga Kill!, and Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu in My Hero Academia.
