The official website of Black Clover movie, titled “Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King,” revealed a new key visual illustrated by the character designer Itsuko Takeda on Dec 7, 2022.

The site also unveiled a movie original character called Jester Galandros. Jester is described as a mysterious mage who works with the former Wizard King, Konrad.

Jester will be voiced by Fumiya Takahashi, known for his role in Kamen Rider Zero-One. This will be his first ever voice acting gig.

Comments from Fumiya Takahashi along with Yuki Tabata have been revealed along with the announcement.

Fumiya’s comment:

“I am Fumiya Takahashi, the voice of Jester. This is my first challenge as a voice actor, and I played the quirky role of Jester with great care. As I read the script for the movie, I began to feel that I had been given a tremendous role, and I really enjoyed reading it!

Actually, before I was asked to play the role, I had followed the Black Clover manga and anime, and I liked Charlotte. At first she was a bit tsundere, but when her feelings for Yami came out, I was so shocked at home that I said, ‘Seriously?,’ I hope you will enjoy seeing how Asta, Yuno, and Yami interact with Jester, who was created together with the staff!“

Tabata’s comment:

“The role of ‘Jester’, a character that plays an important role, will be played by Fumiya Takahashi!
I learned about him through the drama ‘Saiai’, which was recommended to me by my wife, and he is such a wonderful actor… I am so excited to be able to ask such a person to do the voice-over! Jester also has a difficult role to play, but I’m really looking forward to seeing it completed!“

It was previously revealed that original character Millie Maxwell will be voiced by Marie Iitoyo.

Black Clover movie will hit the Japanese theatres on March 31, 2023, and will also be distributed worldwide on Netflix.

The film is being directed by Ayataka Tanemura, with screenplay by Johnny Otoda and Ai Orii. Itsuko Takeda will serve as the character designer, and  Minako Seki in charge of music. Yuki Tabata will also be supervising the film and provide original character designs.

Yūki Tabata‘s Black Clover has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since February 2015, with its chapters collected in 30 tankōbon volumes as of October 2021.

The plot follows Asta, a young boy born without any magic power. This is unknown to the world he lives in because seemingly everyone has some sort of magic power. With his fellow mages from the Black Bulls, Asta plans to become the next Wizard King.

The manga was first adapted into an original video animation produced by Xebec Zwei, released in 2017. An anime television series adaptation produced by Pierrot, aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from October 2017 to March 2021.
