Oda Confirms Roronoa Zoro Is Related To Ryuma In Family Tree!

Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece manga, revealed Zoro’s entire family tree in recent SBS, confirming a long-standing theory in the fandom.

According to the family tree that Oda revealed, Zoro is indeed related to, and is a direct descendant of the legendary swordsman from Wano, Shimotsuki Ryuma. He is also confirmed to be a member of Shimotsuki clan on his grandmother’s side.

Zoro’s grandmother is Shimotsuki Furiko, who is the older sister of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the last daimyo of Ringo. She was a part of the 25 people who left Wano with Shimotsuki Kouzaburo. The latter is the swordsmith who crafted both the Wado Ichimonji and Enma.

Sometime during their voyage, while they were in the East Blue, the gang decides to rescue a village there from a group of mountain bandits who were attacking it. 10 of the 25 people decide to settle in the village itself, and among them were Furiko and Kouzaburo.

Here, Furiko marries Roronoa Pinzoro, a swordsman from that village. They give birth to a son, Roronoa Arashi, who is Zoro’s father.

Zoro’s mother is revealed to be the daughter of a thieving bandit, named Terra.

Both Zoro’s father and mother are not alive anymore. While his father died fighting the pirates in a battle, his mother died due to an illness.

Now, Shimotsuki Ushimaru is the direct descendant of Shimotsuki Ryuma, and since his older sister, Furiko, is Zoro’s grandmother, that makes him a direct descendant of Ryuma too.

Fans have always been speculating this outcome thanks to the amount of hints littered throughout the manga. From the name of the village where Zoro was brought being Shimotsuki, to his uncanny resemblance to Ryuma (one-eyed) and him bringing back the Shusui to Wano.

Though Oda confirmed Zoro being a descendant of Ryuma, a section of fans were unhappy with the way he did it. They were hoping for the reveal to come in a grand way in one of the One Piece manga chapters itself, instead, they were disappointed by the fact that Oda decided to reveal it all in an SBS.
