PVR Pictures released a press release July 6, 2022, stating that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie has collected over ₹5.40 crores at the Indian Box Office over the first weekend after its release.
“Collecting over 5.4 crores in weekend box office returns, looks like Indian anime fans have well and truly embraced the PVR Pictures release,” the distributors wrote in the press release.
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Pictures, also commented on the movie’s encouraging performance at the box office, saying that it motivates them to bring more anime content to India.
The movie, which is currently running in theatres, continues to garner rave reviews from anime fans across the country.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie released in India on June 30, 2022, earning ₹1.50 crores on the first day.
Owing to the positive response, PVR had added more cities and areas where they will be screening Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
The movie has made around USD $180 million (24.25 Billion Yen), globally, before its release in India.
It was released in over 8000 theatres, selling over 9.9 million tickets. Although, 9.8 million tickets were sold in Japan alone.
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is the 4th highest earning anime movie in North America, and 8th highest earning anime movie ever, globally.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, the prequel manga to the main series. It is written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. The manga was serialized in Shueisha’s Jump GIGA magazine from April to July 2017.
After Akutami launched Jujutsu Kaisen in 2018, the series was retroactively retitled Jujutsu Kaisen 0—making it a prequel—and released in a single tankōbon volume in December 2018.
