Kazue Kato‘s Blue Exorcist manga will resume its serialization from the June issue (#6) of Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine, which will release on May 2022. The series will feature on the cover of the magazine to commemorate its comeback.

Blue Exorcist manga has been on a hiatus since July 2021 as author Kato was working on a short six-chapter manga adaptation of Fuyumi Ono‘s Eizen Karukaya Kaiitan (Strange Tales from the Handy Shop Karukaya) horror novels, which was serialized in Jump SQ from October 2021.

Kato had released a statement saying she wanted to serialize both works simultaneously, but was afraid of overstressing herself.

Blue Exorcist was originally supposed to end its hiatus in the May issue of Jump SQ in 2022. But a message in the March issue (2022) of the magazine revealed that the hiatus was extended and the series would resume in the June issue. Kato’s adaptation of Ono’s novels too skipped the April issue, with its sixth and final chapter releasing in the May issue of Jump SQ that shipped in April.

Blue Exorcist manga had earlier been on a hiatus in the March and April issues of Jump SQ in 2021, as the author explained that her “12 years of fatigue exploded.”

Blue Exorcist is a manga series written and illustrated by Kazue Kato. The manga has been serialized in Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine since April 2009, with individual chapters collected into 27 tankōbon volumes as of July 2021.

The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager who discovers he and his twin brother Yukio are the sons of Satan, born from a human woman, and he is the inheritor of Satan’s powers. When Satan kills their guardian, Rin enrolls at True Cross Academy to become an exorcist under Yukio’s tutelage in order to defeat his father Satan.
