Square Enix and Bandai Namco announced on their official Twitter accounts that they decided to donate to charities to support Ukraine after Russia’s devastating invasion.
Square Enix in their Twitter post stated that they will donate US$500,000 to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in addition to launching a fundraiser and matching gift program for the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders.
“Square Enix announced today the donation of 500,000 dollars to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to help Ukrainian refugees who seek refuge in the nearby regions. Our Square Enix group have launched a fundraising and matching gift program to benefit the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors without Borders,” wrote Square Enix.
“We sincerely hope peace will be restored and those affected by the crisis will recover peaceful life as soon as possible,” they added.
Bandai Namco USA also pledged 100 million yen (approximately US$845,000) to the Save the Children charity for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
“The Bandai Namco Group has decided to give a donation of 100 million yen to Save the Children in support of their humanitarian cause for the people affected by the crisis and seeking refuge outside the country,” the company said in a public statement.
Nevertheless, the Russia-Ukraine tension has created a situation that has disrupted payment and service support in Russia. It resulted in many companies stopping streaming services in the country.
Previously, streaming giant Crunchyroll and its subsidiary Wakanim announced a brief suspension of their anime streaming service in Russia following the country’s military operation in Ukraine.
They stated that only the website is inaccessible. Users with an active subscription will be able to seamlessly use the services through applications on mobile devices. However, they can’t renew their subscription yet since card payments in Russia are halted.
