In a recent episode of Fuji TV’s ‘Bokura no Jidai’ program, Yuki Kaji who is known for voicing Eren in Attack On Titan had an interesting story to share when asked about his work habits.
Yuki Kaji, not wanting to let the cat out so easily, made a vague confession at first stating that when he played certain role in a certain work he always wore the same underwear. He didn’t get much into the details regarding the specifics of the anime or the character he played.
“When I played a certain role in a certain work, for some reason, I always wore the same underwear.”
But seeing the curious look on the faces of Kana Hanazawa and Tomokazu Seki, who were also present in the chat show, he immediately revealed the name of the anime and the character. And much to their surprise it was none other than the biggie Attack On Titan with the character being Eren.
The reason he chose to wear this particular underwear for the first episode of the anime was because it had black and white pattern, which was similar to the impression of the original work.
He ended up wearing the same one for the second episode a week later, and this time it being completely coincidental. This eventually turned into a decade long ritual.
“I think it was just a coincidence, the pattern on the pants was black and white, and it was close to the impression I had of the work. I decided to wear them for the first episode, and then for the second episode I thought, ‘Oh, these are the same ones I wore last week,’ and I decided to wear them.“
Of course, the concern regarding the hygienity of the practice did not go unchecked, as Hanazawa and Seki, made sure to confirm with Yuki Kaji whether the underwear was washed, to which he replied “Of course, of course. It’s been 10 years this year,” with a laugh.
He also mentioned that the underwear had a hole in it since it was 10 years old and revealed “that it was at the seam in the middle of the crotch”.
Yuki Kaji is a Japanese actor, voice actor and singer affiliated with the agency VIMS.
