The official website of the upcoming anime film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back manga announced the cast for the two main characters on March 14, 2024.

Yumi Kawai, known for her role in Extremely Inappropriate!, will voice Ayumu Fujino. Meanwhile, Mizuki Yoshida, known for Alice in Borderland, will voice Kyomoto.

Yumi Kawai and Mizuki Yoshida expressed their enthusiasm on being a part of the anime film, as it marks the voice acting debut of both the actors. Checkout their comments below:

Yumi Kawai:

I played the role of Fujino. My name is Yumi Kawai.
“Look Back” is a manga that has moved the hearts of many people. This time, Director Oshiyama and the production team have attempted to bring a new dimension to Fujino and Kyomoto’s living moments by adapting it into an animation, and I contributed by breathing life and voice into it. It was my first time participating in the world of animation, but I did my best to deliver a sincere voice that matches Fujino’s dynamically moving body inside the picture. Please watch the movie “Look Back” in theaters!

Mizuki Yoshida:

When I first read “Look Back,” I was shocked by the immersive world depicted by Tatsuki Fujimoto-sensei, and I was very excited to see how this work would be adapted into an anime. When I received the role of Kyomoto through an audition and saw the footage for the first time, I was deeply moved, thinking, “Wow! That world is alive!” Even though it was an unfinished picture, I became even more fond of Fujino and Kyomoto to the point where tears welled up during recording. It was my first voice acting job, but I put my heart into it as much as possible. I would be happy if you could look forward to it.

Look Back anime film is scheduled to release in the Japanese theatres on June 28, 2024.

The film will be produced by Studio Durian.

The film will be directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama. He will also be handling the screenplay and character designs for Look Back anime film.

Look Back is a Japanese one-shot web manga written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in July 2021.

MAL describes the plot of Look Back as:

Fourth-grader Ayumu Fujino regularly draws four-panel manga for her school newspaper and is lauded as having the best artwork in her class. One day, she is asked by her teacher to turn over one of her manga slots in the school newspaper to a truant student named Kyomoto. When Kyomoto’s manga pops up alongside Fujino’s, it receives high praises for its detailed artwork, making Fujino furiously jealous.

Refusing to be beaten by someone who barely attends school, Fujino devotes herself to learning to create manga. As time goes on though, her goal of outshining Kyomoto seems to only get further and further away, and Fujino, now in sixth grade, eventually gives up and quits making manga.

Graduation day arrives, and Fujino is asked to deliver Kyomoto’s graduation certificate to her. Through chance, the two end up coming face to face, and their unexpected meeting will end up having consequences far beyond what either of them could ever predict.
