Sekyu Lab, a collaborative outlet by McAfee Japan and ASCII.jp, revealed the trending keywords related to “anime” on May 31, 2023.
This is based on the data collected from tweets made on Twitter from May 7-23, 2023, providing an exciting glimpse into the current trending anime.
As per the latest report by Sekyu Lab, Oshi No Ko anime was ranked #1, beating One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen to become the most tweeted anime in May. The reason for the rankings were also revealed by the Lab.

10. Hells Paradise: Jigokuraku
No. of Tweets: 51,640
Coming at no. 10 is Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku. The airing of episode 8 of the anime prompted to a significant increase in tweet as the viewers expressed their thoughts on the emotional developments in the story. Moreover, MAPPA Stage event that took place on May 21, contributed to an overall increase in the tweets.
9. Attack On Titan
No. of Tweets: 68,959
Ranking at no. 9 is Attack On Titan. This is due to the release of key visual for the final part of the anime on May 21, 2023. The post garnered quite the traction with 63,000 retweets and 250,000 likes. The key visual’s simplicity and the deliberate use of shadows, concealing the characters’ identities, sparked discussions and heightened intrigue among the fanbase.
8. Chiikawa: Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu
No. of Tweets: 73,452
Chiikawa is the only manga that made it to the list. The reason for it ranking no.8 is because the author, Nagano, who had openly discussed their hospitalization and surgery on their Twitter account, shared a heart-warming update on May 22. Nagano announced the discharge from the hospital along with with a one-page manga on the theme of anesthesia.
This gained significant amount of attention and was covered by various media outlets, becoming a major topic of discussion.
7. Bocchi The Rock!
No. of Tweets made: 88,148
Ranked #7 is Bocchi The Rock!. The announcement of the compilation film during live event “Kessoku Band LIVE- Kousei -” on May 21 led to an increase in tweets and discussions surrounding the series.
6. One Piece
No. of Tweets: 154,996
Ranking at the sixth position is “One Piece“. The recent episode of the anime aired on May 21 showcased an intense battle between Zoro and King with exceptional animation. Coming in at #4 is Jujutsu Kaisen. The highly anticipated PV for the second season was revealed on May 21, garnering massive traction, with 121,000 retweets and 282,000 likes. Moreover, the replies in the comment section of the tweet indicated global reach and excitement among fans worldwide.
3. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury

In the 3rd place we have Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. After the broadcast of the 18th episode on May 21st, the character designer, Mogumo, posted an illustration of Prospera, who had removed her mask, embracing her daughter. The artwork received 42,000 likes, and the comments section was filled with posts expressing how it connected to the prologue and evoked a sense of sadness.
2. IDOLiSH7

In the second place, we have IDOLiSH7. The highly anticipated movie “IDOLiSH7 Movie: LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERiOD” was released on May 20, sparking a surge in tweets as users shared their thoughts and engaged in various campaigns related to the movie. Additionally, the official account released comment videos from the cast before the opening stage greetings, which quickly gained popularity with 39,000 likes.
1. Oshi No Ko

The top-ranking keyword is “Oshi no Ko“. It gained attention due to the striking similarity between the content of Episode 6, aired on May 17, and the tragic incident involving professional wrestler Kimura Hana, who took her own life after appearing on the reality show “Terrace House”. This resemblance sparked a significant controversy, including complaints from the victim’s family. In addition, the announcement of the large-scale exhibition, “TV Anime Oshi no Ko Exhibition: Uso to Ai,” received a tremendous response with over 56,000 likes.
