Malaysian Govt Contacts JJK Creator Gege Akutami To Endorse Kuantan Beach

Following the mention of Kuantan beach of Malaysia in a recent Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 episode, which led to a considerable surge in its popularity, it has been revealed that the Pahang state government is actively pursuing to get in touch with the creator Gege Akutami through the Japanese government.

During the Pahang state legislative assembly on Dec 6, 2023, Leong Yu Man, Pahang’s executive councillor for unity, tourism, and culture, revealed the government’s efforts to get in touch with the creator.

Kuantan Beach Nanami and Leong for endorsement

Leong expressed the government’s intention to take advantage of this newfound attention to promote Kuantan and its beaches as a top-tier tourist destination for anime fans around the world.

We hope the creator of the anime can endorse the beach further so that it will be a tourist attraction for anime fans across the world,” stated Leong.

The episode in question featured an injured Nanami encountering Mahito. Their meeting ended with Nanami meeting an unfortunate fate at the hands of the cursed spirit. However, before meeting his death, Nanami envisioned a serene life spent on a Kuantan beach in Malaysia.

Leong also acknowledged the impact of the anime, as she highlighted that some fans even marked Kuantan as the memorial shrine for the character Kento Nanami on Google maps.

Earlier, Malaysian Airlines had also made a reference to Nanami’s longing for a peaceful beach life in Malaysia in a post on their socials, encouraging fans to visit the beach.

Pahang is a large state in Peninsular Malaysia. It’s known for its mountains, rainforests and beaches, including the white sands and coral reefs of Tioman Island off the east coast. The state capital, Kuantan, is a major seaport.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 cour 1 aired from July 6, 2023, to Aug 3, 2023, and the second cour of the season started airing on Aug 31, 2023.

Tatsuya Kitani performed the opening theme song “Ao no Sumika”, while Soushi Sakiyama performed the ending theme song “Akari”.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It is currently being serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since March 2018. The Jujutsu Kaisen chapters are collected and published by Shueisha, with 23 tankobon volumes released as of July 2023.
