Top 20 Isekai Anime With OP MC!!

After all the anime we watched, didn’t we all think of how “boring” this world is? We don’t get to control the elements of nature, transform into ginormous robots, spawn in floating auto-shooting guns and missiles, or even teleport (sounds normal after all the previously said things)!!

If only we weren’t born here! If only the “GODS” of other universes summoned us! Well, welcome to the world of Isekai Anime!

We all know how diverse the universe of anime really is. The isekai genre is one of the bigger galaxies in said universe. Isekai anime generally involves characters being transported to, reborn, or trapped in a parallel universe, typically a fantasy world with its own set of rules.

While in some cases the characters gets “far too buffed” and destroys everyone opposing him/her, some get “nerfed into oblivion” and either need to work tremendously hard to go up the ranks, or get lucky enough (no, they don’t die…the story needs to progress and plot armor exists). We deal with the “OP” ones in this article.

Best Isekai anime with OP MC:

Isekai Anime with OP MC

Why even bother watching a story where you already know that the protagonist is going to DESTROY everyone? It’s for “relaxation” and “satisfaction”.

The main character in this sub-genre with either be extremely strong in whichever field the world is set in, or will get powers completely unrelated to it. Imagine going in a fist fight where your opponent is using guns and tanks (you get the idea).

Enough explanations! Time to dive into the “Top 20 isekai anime with OP MC”, (literally unstoppable).

20. Isekai Cheat Magician

Isekai Cheat Magician

Probably the best case scenario for those who want to be “OP Mages” if they ever get teleported to another world (don’t get your hopes up). Written by Takeru Uchida and based on the light novel with the same name, Isekai Cheat Magician revolves around Taichi Nishimura and his childhood friend Rin Azuma.

Typical isekai stuff happen as they get teleported to another world as they were on their way to school. Warned by a group of adventures about the increasing monster attacks, they were directed to the guild where they can determine their magical capabilities and become official adventurers.

It is there when they discover that their limit far surpasses that of the standard humans in that world, making them “cheat magicians”. That is where the name “Isekai Cheat Magician” comes from.

As they adapt to their new environment while finding a way to return to their former world, shadows start lurking as they become entangled to the conflicts of their new magical world. Even though it has mediocre animations and a decent story, this anime is worth a watch as it’s one of the good ones with the “OP MC” theme compared to others.

19. In Another World With My Smartphone

In Another World With My Smartphone

Imagine being so unlucky that God itself apologizes to you. Written by Patora Fuyuhara and adapted into both an anime and manga series from the light novel, In Another World With My Smartphone is an anime which literally depicts “Using guns and tanks in a fist fight”.

Unluckily struck by lightning one day, God apologizes to Touya Mochizuki and offers him another chance at life along with one wish. Touya happily accepts the offer and, for his one wish, asks only to keep his smartphone with him as he begins his journey into this mysterious world. Staring over in the new world filled with magic, which he surprisingly has an affinity for, he also gets access to the INTERNET, which by the way, NO ONE ELSE has.

Touya also finds himself surrounded by girls (the cute variety obviously…. these never happen in real life). Touya gets the company of the twins Linze and Elze Silhoueska, Yumina Urnea Belfast, Leen, and Yae Kokonoe—who provide Touya with no end of romantic frustrations alongside companionship, which he definitely needed in his new journey.

This anime surprising blends the aspect of adventure, fantasy and comedy really well. Keeping aside the “OP MC” aspect, this anime will also provide you with tons of comfort and laughs as a side dish. Definitely an anime worth a try!

18. Haatage! Kemono Michi

Haatage! Kemono Michi

A fan of animals? Want yourself surrounded by, *ahem*, Fox-girls? Maybe Dragon Ladies or even Vampires? Welcome to the world of Haatage! Kemono Michi, or simply “Kemono Michi: Rise Up”. This is one those “Unique” isekais out there, with a rather unusual twist of it’s own.

During the match for the title of World Champion against his rival, the Macadamian Ogre, Genzou Shibata is suddenly teleported to another world by a princess. She asks Genzou for help with solving the recent monster infestation that has been going around the kingdom. As every normal hero would do next – he accepts, or that’s what YOU THINK HE’D DO! he German Suplexes the princess!

Since Genzou has a deep love for animals, and when he is ordered to kill magical beasts, he refuses and thus, replies with a good old “German Suplex” (sounds normal if you ask me).

Escaping the castle and finding himself stranded in a mysterious land, Genzou decides to begin his career as a beast hunter to capture and befriend creatures far and wide. Let’s not forget that he was joined by a Wolf, a Dragon and a Vampire (wolf… lady…). Unique in it’s own way, this show definitely deserves more attention!

17. Maou-Sama, Retry!

Maou-Sama, Retry!

We now enter the area of “If only I could go into the Game I play and DOMINATE everyone”. Introducing Akira Oono, a middle aged man who manages a virtual reality MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online RPG {role playing game.. how do you not know that?! and if you did, why’re you reading this?!}) named “Infinity Game”.

After 15 years of managing the game, he decides to shut off the game servers.  However, as the clock strikes midnight, he finds himself in the body of Hakuto Kunai, Infinity Game’s Demon Lord! As he tries to understand the situation and the sheer amount of “power” he gained, he spots Demon Greole chasing after a little girl named Aku.

Although he makes quick work of the demon, Hakuto seems confused as he doesn’t recall creating neither the demon, nor the girl.

He decides to investigate the situation and thus, takes off on a journey with Aku. Having a beautiful blend of fantasy, comedy, and action, this isekai anime is not to be missed, but then again, individual tastes vary, so it depends on your preferences for humor and fantasy storytelling.

16. How To Not Summon a Demon Lord

How To Not Summon a Demon Lord

Since we’re in the “If only I could go into the Game I play and DOMINATE everyone” area, let’s talk about “How to not Summon a Demon Lord” next in our list of top isekai anime with OP MC.

In the fantasy MMORPG Cross Reverie, none one comes close to the power of the Demon King Diablo. Possessing the game’s most rare artifacts (Genshin better take notes) and insanely high player level, Diablo overpowers anyone who’s foolish enough to challenge him.

The plot sounds similar to SAO doesn’t it? But that’s where the similarities end. Diablo’s real name is Takuma Sakamoto, a shut-in gamer. The only things he cares about are his virtual life and defeating the ones who challenge him. Everything changes when he suddenly gets transported to another world through a summoning spell, a world where he has Diablo’s appearance!

In a bizarre turn of events, Takuma becomes the overpowered Demon Lord Diablo in that world. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is socially inept and struggles with real-life communication, which often leads to funny moments. Filled with action, humor and a bit of fan-service, this anime isn’t to be missed if you’re looking for an isekai anime with an OP MC.

15. Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest

Arifureta From Commonplace to World's Strongest

If you’re also a “The MC was betrayed” type of person apart from the general “OP MC in isekai anime”, you’re in for a treat! Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest” (Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō) is a Japanese light novel series written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki, which has also been adapted to anime (that’s why it’s here).

The story revolves around 17-year-old otaku Hajime Nagumo, a normal highschooler. One day, he and his friends are transported to a fantasy world where all of them gain COOL powers. Everyone except Hajime that is. While his classmates are gifted with impressive powers useful in combat, Hajime gains an inferior transmutation skill that lacks any real offensive power. Betrayed by one of his classmates, he falls to the bottom of an abyss.

Faced with deadly monsters and desperate to live and return home one day, he resolves to fight for his survival, making himself stronger. In contrast to most of the other stories where the MC gets an useful ability by default, Hajime here had to make his ability useful through sheer willpower and hard work.

Hajime is joined by Yue, a vampire and a few others who accompany him on his journey to find a way back home, while steadily transforming from commonplace to the world’s strongest only through his will to survive, thus the name of the anime.

14. Skeleton Knight in Another World

Skeleton Knight in Another World

Day 3 in the area of “If only I could go into the Game I play and DOMINATE everyone”. Skeleton Knight in Another World (Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu) is based on the light novel of the same name written by Ennki Hakari.

The story follows Arc, a player of a virtual reality MMORPG who is transported to a fantasy world as his game avatar after he fell asleep while playing the game. Upon arrival, he discovers that he has taken on the appearance of his in-game character, a skeleton knight, which forces him to hide his appearance to avoid unwanted attention.

Despite his appearance of a skeleton, he retained his human consciousness.  With his overpowered abilities, Arc embarks on a fantastical journey, exploring the vast lands, helping people and looting monsters.

Despite its rather simple plot, Skeleton Knight in Another World blends isekai, action and fantasy exceptionally well together. Waste no time and witness the prowess of Mr. Bootleg Ainz Ooal Go… Arc that is. (Get it? because both of them are nothing but BONES… *bad joke… don’t laugh*)

13. Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World

Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World

The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist In Another World is an isekai anime with OP MC from 2023. Its directed by Ryōsuke Shibuya, animated by Studio Blanc and based on the light novel series written by Kiichi Kosuzu.

This is one of those anime where the MC was pretty strong in their original world and retained their memories when transported to another world!

The story revolves around Haruyoshi Kuga, the strongest exorcist in his world. Even though he was at the pinnacle, he sought even greater power, which led to his demise at the hands of those who envied his abilities. As he draws his last breath in front of his favorite student who killed him, he casts a spell that would allow him to reincarnate. He swears to be more cunning in his next life and not trust others easily.

Haruyoshi is reborn in another world as Seika Lamprogue, the son of a noble family that prides itself on magic. However, his new familydoesn’t pay him any attention him due to his deficiency of magic. An unbothered Seika recalls and uses the knowledge from his previous life to his advantage, which mostly relies on paper talismans.

Having a pretty decent plot and all the factors you’re looking for – an OP MC, and most importantly, an ISEKAI ANIME! (no way!) Go watch it!

12. Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles

Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles

Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles is a light novel series written by Yuri Kitayama and illustrated by Riv, that has also been adapted into both manga and anime.

Haruto Amakawa, who is reincarnated into a fantasy world after his tragic death in the real world due to a traffic accident, finds himself in the body of a young boy named Rio. As their memories fuse, Rio realizes that he now also possesses magical powers.

Travelling through a world filled with magic and spirits, Rio comes across the kidnapped princess of the Bertram Kingdom. To express his gratitude for saving the princess, the king grants him the opportunity to enroll in the Bertram Royal Academy. Thinking it as a new chance in his life, he takes up the offer, not knowing the amount of politics and betrayal there is in the world.

Is it really easy to live in a world filled with magic? Is magic the only factor that matters? Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles discuss the very same factor in it’s anime along with themes of adventure, friendship, as well as the hardships one needs to go through in a fantastical world.

11. The Saint’s Power is Omnipotent

The Saint's Power is Omnipotent

After all the Male MCs we’ve been getting, it’s time for some gender swapping. This series is one of a kind as it doesn’t have your generic “Teenage Highschooler”, but an office worker.

The story follows Sei Takanashi, an office worker who is suddenly summoned to another world along with another woman named Aira Misono. Their purpose ? She was summoned by the Grand Magus of the kingdom in order to get a “Saint” who could help with the kingdom’s problem of monster infestation.

Upon her arrival to the kingdom of Slantania, the prince declares the other girl as the Saint, leaving Sei to her own devices, not realizing the power which was hidden in her.

Sei decides to lead her life quietly in her newly found place. She sets her sight on the Medicinal Flora Research Institute, an establishment known for its studies regarding herbs and potions. While indulging in her latest passion, Sei starts to understand the power which is stored in her.

This series is one of a kind- Relaxing, humorous and also filled with action and emotional scenes. You could say it’s somewhat similar to the anime “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”, but isekai.

10. The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat

Before I start, we’ll assume that “The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat” is equivalent to “TWFA”. It should make things easier for me (and yes, I’m a mathematics student). TWFA (Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru) is a light novel series written by Rui Tsukiyo and illustrated by Reia.

The plot is somewhat similar to Arifureta (mentioned previously). Our MC, the world’s finest assassin was betrayed by the very same organization who had raised him and to whom he had sworn lifelong allegiance to. Filled with regrets, he finds himself in front of a Goddess who was attracted to him by his exceptional skills. The Goddess reincarnates him in another world, tasking him to save the world by killing it’s hero within eighteen years.

This is one of those anime where the MC has to work hard in order to be strong. Even though Lugh (his name in this world) was already strong, taking down the hero of the world would need nothing but perfection. Tldr; this isekai anime has a lot of interesting aspects apart from an OP MC!

9. Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious (Shinchou Yuusha: Kono Yuusha ga Ore Tsueee Kuse ni Shinchou Sugiru) is a Japanese light novel series written by Light Tuchihi and illustrated by Saori Toyota.

This anime is the depiction of “It’s always good to be overly cautious” and “I don’t trust in myself and my abilities enough” at the same time.

The story follows Seiya Ryuuguuin, a hero summoned to a fantasy world to save it from it’s destruction. After being summoned by the Goddess Ristarte, he was tasked with saving the world of Gaeabrande. Even though absurdly strong, Seiya is overly-cautious with any scenario he is faced with.

It’s like using a nuke to kill a spider (I approve of this method if it’s spiders we’re talking about). He often uses his strongest skills and an excessive amount of supplies and potions to kill the weakest of enemies.

As you might’ve guessed, instead of being serious, this anime is filled with hilarious moments, even thought the MC is OP! While his overly cautious attribute might sound annoying, it just might be saving Gaeabrande considering you never know when the evil forces might evolve.

8. Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy

Tsukimichi: Moonlight Fantasy

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy (Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu) is a Japanese light novel series written by Kei Azumi. The series has been adapted into a manga and an anime. This story revolves around the life of Makoto Misumi, an average boy from every aspect.

Underneath all this, his parents are from a fantasy world who came to earth. As a part of a contract, Makoto is to be sent to the world of Elysion to serve as a hero.

The Goddess after seeing Makoto labels him as “ugly” and revokes his hero title (“Don’t be like the Goddess.. It’s what on the inside that matters” – Sagnik Maheshwari… probably).

Saved by Tsukuyomi, he is granted great power so he could live a normal and free life since he has been prohibited from interacting with other humans by the Goddess. Makoto manages to interact with demi-humans and other mythical creatures who join him in his adventure.

In contrast to the Goddess’ ideals, Makoto manages to form a party and becomes extremely strong. In fact, his aura is so strong that it’s now impossible for him to live with humans. The series is known for its unique take on the isekai genre, blending elements of fantasy, adventure, and comedy. Just like “Cautious Hero”, the MC here is both strong and hilarious.

7. Log Horizon

Log Horizon

Log Horizon is a Japanese light novel series written by Mamare Touno and illustrated by Kazuhiro Hara. The series has also been adapted into both manga and anime. Another day in the area of “If only I could go into the Game I play and DOMINATE everyone”.

This time, we’ll be diving into the game of Elder Tale, a MMORPG. It all started when the game updates itself, adding a new feature, the removal of the “Log Out” button.

Over thirty thousand gamers were bewildered when they realized they were stuck in the very game they were playing (resembles SAO a bit). One of them is our MC Shiroe, a socially awkward college student and a veteran in the game. What’s better than going into a world where you’re the best? Nothing!

The story follows Shiroe as he explores the world, interacts with NPC “natives” and is joined by his friends. The Anime is plot focused, meaning anything that happens to or by the characters has a significant effect on the world.

With how interconnected the anime is with its plot, it will always be engaging for the viewers to sit through, even if the story feels bland. (Tldr; if you find the story boring, sit though it.. it’ll be worth it)

6. Saga of Tanya the Evil

Saga of Tanya the Evil

Next up in our list of isekai anime with OP MC is The Saga of Tanya the Evil (Youjo Senki). Just like The Saint’s Power is Omnipotent, our MC here is an office worker.

It all starts when he encounters a mysterious being that claims to be God and gets reincarnated into a world of magic as a young orphan girl named Tanya.

While they realize that they retain their original memories, Tanya finds herself in a pseudo World War I Europe. Since Tanya had an aptitude for magic, she joins the military as an officer in the mage unit. Anything after this would be considered a “spoiler”, so without doing the same, know that Tanya here is more of an “Anti-Hero” main character in the sense that they are highly self-interested.

As Tanya climbs the military hierarchy, she becomes known as “The Devil of the Rhine” for her ruthless tactics and efficiency on the battlefield. Her previous memories and experience as an adult make her look extremely intelligent, even though she is a child (just like Rudeus in Jobless Reincarnation).

With rather matures themes including politics, strategizing and war, Saga of Tanya the Evil is known for its unique take on isekai, military strategy, and its complex, yet OP MC.

5. The Eminence in Shadow

The Eminence in Shadow

The MC in Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) is honestly “INTERESTING”. Our MC Cid Kagenou is obsessed with the idea of being the “side-character” when in front of everyone, even though he possesses a great amount of power within him.

Cid, realized that while in Earth, there will always be something that can kill him. For instance, an atomic explosion is something a human cannot avoid while in range. For the same reason, Cid decides to get “isekai-ed”, in hopes of going into a world where he could be unstoppable, which he does! (Credits: Truck-kun

With the power he so desired finally within his grasp, he takes the name of “Shadow” and creates Shadow Garden: a group whose sole purpose is to stop the Cult of Diablos, a group which Cid created from him imagination.

The plot might sound childish, and it probably is! But as the story progresses and the Shadow Garden blooms with new members, it becomes increasingly apparent that the Cult of Diablos is not as fictional as Cid had intended.

Filled with well choreographed and animated action scenes, moments where Cid’s smallest interactions were considered to be Wisdom and of course, fan-service, this anime is a MUST WATCH if you’re looking for both an isekai anime with op mc.

4. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) is a Japanese light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah. Say it with me now, it has ALSO been adapted to an anime and a manga series!! Surprising right?

Back to Office workers! Thirty-seven-year-old Satoru Mikami is a typical corporate worker, perfectly content with his day-to-day monotonous lifestyle in Tokyo. Let’s not talk about the fact that he’s still single (#Retatable). While in a casual encounter with his colleague, he gets stabbed by a person.

His Last Words?

Take the hard drive out of my computer at home and put it in the bath.” You wouldn’t want anyone to take a peek in the books of your ancient library right?

After getting reincarnated in another world, he finds himself as a slime, someone who can devour anything and mimic the appearance and abilities of anyone. On his way, he finds a “storm dragon” and befriends him. The dragon gives him the name “Rimuru Tempest” and Rimuru promises to break the dragon’s seal.

Liberated from his past, Rimuru decides to take off on a journey, trying to understand his physique and abilities, while also befriending and naming other creatures who befriend him.

3. No Game No Life

No Game No Life

My favorite game is ‘Guess When No Game No Life Season 2 Will Finally Come.’
Spoiler: I always lose.

No Game No Life is a Japanese light novel series written and illustrated by Yuu Kamiya. I’m not saying “THAT” again. This is an isekai anime where we deal with not one, but TWO OP MCs!! Yay! Double the Fun! Sora and Shiro are two inseparable siblings who dominate various online games under the username ” “. Yes, it is ” “. I didn’t forget the name.

You could also say it’s “Blank”.

As they were playing a game of chess, they were suddenly transported to another world where Tet (the God of the World) greets them with a parachute-less free fall. After Tet leaves, Sora and Shiro begin their search for more information and a place to stay which eventually takes them to Elkia – Imanity’s (That world’s version of “Humanity’s”) last standing kingdom as they lost all their other land to other races.

In a world where every race is depicted by a chess piece and everything being decided by playing “games”, Sora and Shiro start dominating every game they play using their skill and experience. They eventually meet Stephanie in between of a game and decide to help her in regaining her father’s throne. Well, that’s just a part of it! No more Spoilers from my end.

This is extremely entertaining to watch as an anime with an OP MC! With only a season and a movie (Season 2 when? It’s been a long TIME!), this anime even though short, has captivated many fans. Having an amazing storyline, an AWESOME Opening Song and a bit of fan-service, you’ll be genuinely missing out if you skip this anime!

2. Overlord

Overlord

Overlord is a Japanese light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. Now kindly fill in the blanks. This also marks the final day in the “If only I could go into the Game I play and DOMINATE everyone” area.

The story is set in the year 2138, where virtual reality based massively multiplayer online role-playing games (VRMMORPGs) have become very advanced.

Overlord is an engaging anime that follows the story of a virtual reality called Yggdrasil. The game is about to shut down, but one player named “Momonga” stays logged in until the very end. Even after the shut down, the game doesn’t log him out, and the non-player characters start to exhibit human like behavior. (We all know where this is going)

Trapped in this new and fully immersive world with no apparent way to log out, Momonga takes on the name Ainz Ooal Gown, hoping some other person recognizes the name and decides to explore the world to uncover the mystery behind his current situation.

Overlord explores the boundaries between virtual and actual worlds as Momonga navigates through this uncharted territory. Let’s not ignore the fact that he is too strong for his world.

This anime is ONE OF THE BEST, IF NOT THE BEST isekai anime with op mc out there! Not convinced yet? I’ll say ONE Word – “Albedo” *nose bleed intensifies*

1. Mushoku Tensei (Jobless Reincarnation)

Mushoku Tensei

Jobless Reincarnation (Mushoku Tensei) is a Japanese light novel series written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka. It has also been adapted into a manga and an anime series (probably the last time I’ll say this).

The story revolves around a 34-year-old NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) who is reincarnated into a magical world after dying in his previous life trying to do something heroic, i.e, saving a girl. In a twist of events, he awakens in another world as Rudeus Greyrat, starting his life again from scratch as a baby. Given a second chance, Rudeus retains his memories and experiences from his old life and is determined not to waste this opportunity.

With the mind and memories of an adult, Rudeus starts to grasp everything really fast and displays magical talent exceptionally well. He hones his magic with the help of Roxy Migurdia, swordplay from his father and also becomes close friends with a girl named Sylphie.

This anime has a lot of things going in it. A brief description or a summary will never do it justice. If you really want to “Enjoy” the show, you’ll have to watch it! And trust me, you WILL NOT REGRET IT. Apart from the bigger issues, this anime also concentrates on smaller problems which Rudeus faces.

Rudeus here had to work really hard in order to get the amount of strength he currently has. Even though not the “Strongest” in his world, he is most definitely OP with respect to others! Just because you’re strong, it doesn’t imply that there aren’t stronger people out there. Offering everything you can ask for – action, emotional scenes, hilarious moments and a tiny amount of fan-service, this anime is not to be missed!
