The official Twitter account of Animate announced that Animate Ikebukuro Main Store has been certified by Guinness World Records as the Largest Anime Shop in the World on March 17, 2024.
On Feb 21, 2024, the store applied to the Guinness World Records, after which, meticulous measurements were conducted under the supervision of a Guinness World Records adjudicator. The final measurement revealed an astounding area of 8,554.673 square meters, establishing Animate Ikebukuro as the premier destination for anime enthusiasts.
To commemorate this remarkable achievement, Animate Ikebukuro hosted a ceremonial event at the Animate Ikebukuro Animate Theater, at 3:00 p.m. on March 17.
The event featured appearances by renowned voice actor Shota Aoi, announcer Neki Matsuzawa, Animate Ltd. CEO Jun Fujiki, Animate Ikebukuro Manager Tomoyuki Noichi, and a representative from Guinness World Records.
The ceremony was also streamed on their official YouTube channel.
In April 2023, Animate Ikebukuro underwent an extensive renovation, effectively doubling its floor space and expanding into the former Ikebukuro Health Centre.
This revamp resulted in a resulting in a remarkable ten-storey complex, which is a paradise for anime and manga enthusiasts. From merchandise featuring beloved characters from popular games to creations by indie artists, the store boasts an extensive array of goods to cater to every fan’s desires.
The revamped complex also includes new theatre and exhibition halls.
