2-Part Documentary On Making Of Solo Leveling Anime Premieres On Crunchyroll

The highly anticipated 2-part documentary on Solo Leveling, titled The Leveling of Solo Leveling, made its premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll on March 5, 2024.

Shot both in Japan and Korea, The Leveling of Solo Leveling offers viewers an inside look at the franchise’s evolution from a web novel to an anime series.

It is produced by Crunchyroll in collaboration with AllSo, a renowned Paris-based production company known for its innovative digital experiences and documentaries.

The docuseries features interviews with over 20 individuals, including fans, creators and producers behind Solo Leveling. Viewers will be transported to Korea, where the documentary delves into the inner workings of D&C Media and Redice Studio, shedding light on the transition of Solo Leveling from text to art.

The narrative then shifts to Japan, offering insights from the teams at Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and A-1 Pictures, as well as the anime’s director, Shunsuke Nakashige, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the adaptation process.

Solo Leveling anime started airing on Jan 7, 2024.

Shunsuke Nakashige is directing the anime, with Noboru Kimura serving as the script writer. Tomoko Sudo is in charge of character designing, and Hiroyuki Sawano will compose the music.

Solo Leveling is a South Korean web novel written by Chugong. It was serialized in Kakao’s digital comic and fiction platform KakaoPage beginning on July 25, 2016, and was later published in full by D&C Media under their Papyrus label on Nov 4, 2016.

A webtoon adaptation of Solo Leveling was first serialized in KakaoPage on March 4, 2018; it was illustrated by Jang Sung-Rak (aka Dubu), the CEO of Redice Studio. The webtoon’s first season concluded on March 19, 2020, and its second season began on August 1, 2020, concluding in December 2021 with its 179th chapter.
