In an exciting announcement, it has been revealed that Osamu Tezuka’s Shinsengumi manga is all geared up to get a live-action series adaptation. Titled Kimi to Yukite Saku ~ Shinsen-gumi Seishun Roku~, it is scheduled to be broadcast on TV Asahi’s “Super Bara Bara Daisakusen” programming block.

The exact release date is yet to be revealed.

Hayato Kawai will be directing the series, with Fumi Tsubota in charge of the scripts. Filming is set to take place at the Toei Kyoto Studio, and auditions are in progress to cast a key role of one of Kyujuro and Daisaku’s companions in the main cast.

Shinsengumi is a manga created by Osamu Tezuka, first serialized in Shueisha’s Shonen Book in 1963. This manga served as the inspiration for a kabuki play that premiered in August 2022.

It was published digitally in English by Digital Manga Guild. The plot of the manga is described as:

In Kyoto, in the late 1800s, the son of a local book-binder, Kyujuro Fukakusa sees his father murdered before his eyes and vows revenge. In his quest for justice, he answers the recruitment call of The Shinsen-gumi (or “The new squad”) a newly-formed special brigade of samurai loyal to the shogun. There he meets fellow recruit and proficient swordsmen, the enigmatic Daisuke Kamakiri.

Despite the gap in their fighting skill levels, the two forma close bond, but can it survive the age of upheaval that is descending on “The Wolves of Mibu?”
