ABJ (Authorized Books of Japan) in collaboration with Fujio Productions launched an anti-piracy campaign, Reprint (is) Bakabon (Tensai wa Bakabon), featuring characters from Fujio Akatsuka‘s original manga Genius Bakabon (Tensai Bakabon).
ABJ’s official anti-piracy Twitter account announced that the manga will have 50 chapters which will release every day on Twitter starting from Feb 14 till Apr 4, 2022.
5 pages from the manga will be posted starting today till Feb 20, 2022, as an advertisement for “Reprint (is) Bakabon” at the Shibuya Station to maximize awareness about manga piracy.
The aim of “Reprint (is) Bakabon” is to promote two points i.e. “it is illegal to reprint manga without permission,” and “it is also illegal to download and read while knowing that it is reprinted without permission”.
Genius Bakabon is about the misadventures of a dim-witted boy (Bakabon) and his idiotic father, the latter of whom eventually becomes the central character.
In this version, the story will revolve around “Bakabon’s papa” who gets swindled by a lawbreaker to create a pirated site for “everyone’s happiness”; eventually ends up in jail.
Tensai Bakabon is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fujio Akatsuka, which began publication on April 9, 1967, in Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
It has been adapted into five anime television series. The first two series produced by Tokyo Movie were broadcast in the 1970s for 40 and 103 episodes respectively. The third and fourth series were produced by Pierrot and broadcast in 1990 and 1999–2000, for 46 and 24 episodes respectively. The fifth series was produced by Pierrot+ and broadcast for 12 episodes in 2018.
