Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back Tops Kono Manga Sugoi! List 2022

Fujimoto won the award 2 years in a row, setting a new record in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! history.

Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) 2022 edition guidebook unveiled on Tuesday that Chainsaw Man author, Tatsuki Fujimoto‘s one-shot manga, Look Back, has won first place for male readers.

Fujimoto’s manga, Chainsaw Man, topped the list last year. This makes him the first author in the history of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! to top the male reader list for two consecutive years.

Fujimoto’s Look Back debuted on Shonen Jump+ in Japan on July 19, 2021. The chapter was collected by Shueisha in a single volume, released on September 3, 2021.

Though it stirred up controversy, the manga was received well by the readers and praised by the critics. Fujimoto had also revealed recently that his own experiences in the aftermath of the “Great earthquake disaster of East Japan” inspired him to draw the one shot.

Drawing Look Back was Fujimoto’s attempt to sort out his feelings of helplessness. These feelings are portrayed in the one shot too, as two aspiring artists go through the same phases.

Chainsaw Man has also bagged the best manga award at The Harvey Awards 2021 in October. The manga competed against Tatsuya Endo’s smash-hit spy thriller SPY x FAMILY, Naoki Urasawa’s Asadora!, Junji Ito’s Remina, and Keito Gaku’s Boys Run The Riot.

Apart from Fujimoto, John Tarachine‘s Umi ga Hashiru Endroll (The Seas Roll on the End Credits) manga topped the list for female readers. The ongoing manga runs in Akita Shoten’s Mystery Bonita magazine.
