Rumors about Nier: Automata, a popular action role playing game, getting an anime adaptation have been doing rounds on the internet. While the news is gaining a lot of traction, fans seem to be skeptical about the development.
According to them, the gaming medium is integral to convey the story of Nier: Automata, as it features alternate endings and other mechanisms that can’t be easily translated into an anime.
Some also argued that Nier: Automata is a game because series creator Yoko Taro envisioned it to be one. While the Nier lore certainly has expanded into other mediums, a lot of fans were convinced that the anime adaptation can’t do it any justice.
The fact that Nier: Automata‘s prequel does not have an anime adaptation is also putting off some enthusiasts. Although the prequel is not necessary to completely understand the story of the game, it still adds a lot to it.
Despite the general skepticism, some reactions to the rumors were hopeful and positive.
Nier: Automata is a 2017 action role-playing game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix. It tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines.
In the game players take the role of these combat androids from the YoRHa units across an open world. The story requires multiple playthroughs, each unlocking additional story elements.
According to leaks, a new domain has been registered in the name of the game, which all but confirms the anime adaptation.
