In an exciting announcement, Japanese publishing company Kodansha revealed that Yuki Suetsugu’s Chihayafuru manga will be getting its first ever sequel manga.
The announcement comes after 1 year and 4-month since the completion of Chihayafuru manga in August 2022.
Titled “Chihayafuru plus Kimi ga Tame,” the new serialization is set to make its debut in the January 2024 issue of “BE・LOVE” magazine, releasing on Dec 1, 2023.
Chihayafuru plus Kimi ga Tame will feature a male protagonist, Ritsu Nagara, a new first-year student, and is set in Mizusawa High School’s karuta club after Chihaya and Taichi have graduated. Ritsu aims to win the National High School Karuta Championship, but after the departure of Chihaya and Taichi, the Mizusawa High School karuta club, with only one Class A player, faces challenges. The story revolves around Ritsu’s dedication to karuta and life, as well as the growth of him and his companions.
Chihayafuru is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu. It was serialized in Kodansha’s josei manga magazine Be Love from December 2007 to August 2022, with its chapters collected in 50 tankōbon volumes.
An anime television series adaptation aired from October 2011 to March 2012. The second season aired from January to June 2013 and the third from October 2019 to March 2020. Three live-action film adaptations were released from 2016 to 2018.
