CoMix Wave Films, the Japanese film studio known for producing several Makoto Shinkai films, including ‘Your Name,’ released a one-minute anime themed promo video on July 23, 2023, to commemorate this year’s Pokémon World Championships.

The promo showcases Pokémon players from diverse backgrounds gathered in the vibrant city of Yokohama.

2023 Pokémon World Championships will be held in Yokohama, Japan, on Aug 11-13, 2023, setting the stage for intense battles and thrilling showdowns among some of the world’s most skilled Pokémon players.

This will be the first time the competition will be held in the country.

The competition will consist of “Pokémon Scarlet and Violet,” the popular mobile game “Pokémon Go,” the strategic battle game “Pokémon Unite,” and Pokémon Trading Card Game (Pokémon TCG).

Players will compete for over a half-million dollars in prizes, the title of Pokémon World Champion, and return invitations for the following year’s Worlds.

The Pokémon World Championships is an invite-only esports event organized by Play! Pokémon. It is held annually in August and features games from the Pokémon series such as the Pokémon video games, Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Go, Pokémon Unite and Pokkén Tournament (until its 2022 edition).

Players earn invitations to the World Championships based on their performance in qualifiers and other tournaments held throughout the season and compete for scholarship money, prizes and the title of World Champion. With the exception of Asia, invitations to the World Championships are administered by the Play! Pokémon program.
