While it was previously revealed that the national-level winners of the WAVES Anime & Manga Contest (WAM!) would be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to Anime Japan, the competition has now unveiled the complete list of state-level prizes.
Participants across multiple categories stand to win cash rewards totaling over INR 10 lakhs.
The state-level cash prizes have been categorized as follows:
- INR 5,000 for Manga (Student)
- INR 5,000 for Manga (Professional)
- INR 5,000 for Webtoon (Student)
- INR 5,000 for Webtoon (Professional)
- INR 10,000 for Anime (Student)
- INR 10,000 for Anime (Professional)
In addition to cash awards, winners in each category will also receive a pen tablet, designed to support and enhance their creative abilities.
Moreover, additional prizes will be offered for special events such as:
- INR 10,000 for the Cosplay competition
- INR 10,000 for activities such as voice acting and musical performances
Winners also stand a get a goodie bag of original merchandise from TRIO by Vaibhavi Studios.
It is worth noting that prize categories and amounts may be adjusted based on sponsorship, with the potential for new prizes to be introduced as the competition progresses.
The WAVES Anime & Manga Contest (WAM!) is a landmark initiative launched by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the Media & Entertainment Association of India (MEAI).
The contest is a part of the “Create in India Challenge,” aiming to foster local talent and further promote the anime and manga culture in India.
Unveiled by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Design in India, Design for the World,” and seeks to harness India’s burgeoning interest in anime and manga.
With state-level competitions taking place across major cities in India, the event will culminate in a grand finale at the WAVES summit, set for February 2025 in Delhi.
With India rapidly emerging as one of the largest anime markets in the world, WAM! presents an exciting opportunity for creators and anime enthusiasts to gain recognition both locally and internationally.
