Vinland Saga‘s animation producer Hiroya Hasegawa’s comments in the English subtitled ‘Vinland Saga Season 2 Project Movie’ video, released on the official Twin Engines YouTube channel, confirms that Vinland Saga Season 2 will have 24 episodes.

In his comment, Hasegawa said that he felt like he was working on all 48 episodes of Vinland Saga. Since, season 1 of the anime had 24 episodes, this comment confirms that Vinland Saga season 2 will have 24 episodes too.

“I thought it wouldn’t make sense if I only do until the end of the first season and leave out the parts where Thorfinn returns to Iceland and reunites with his family. For that reason, with the help of many people, we were able to do everything right up until the farm story. In that sense I felt like I was working on all 48 episodes of the Vinland Saga, I hope everyone is looking forward to it,” Hasegawa said.

The Season 2 Project Movie had started streaming on the official website on the same date the PV and Key visual were released, however, the subtitled version was only released on June 12, 2022.

Hasegawa, along with director Shuhei Yabuta and Character Designer and Animation Director Takahiko Abiru, were talking about Season 2 and its nuances when this comment was made.

Vinland Saga Season 2 is set to premiere in January 2023. A new PV and key visual were released for the anime on June 8, 2022. Though the studio in charge of animating Vinland Saga Season 2 changed from WIT to MAPPA, the staff working on the anime is same as Season 1.

Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. The series is published by Kodansha and was first serialized in the youth-targeted Weekly Shōnen Magazine before moving to the monthly manga magazine Monthly Afternoon, aimed at young adult men.

As of July 2021, the series has been compiled into twenty-five bound volumes. Vinland Saga has also been licensed for English-language publication by Kodansha USA.

An anime adaptation by WIT Studio premiered on July 7, 2019, to Dec 29, 2019, consisting of 24 episodes.
