The official website of Crunchyroll along with WOWOW and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan has announced on Nov 17, 2022, that Tow Ubukata’s novel Bye Bye, Earth is getting an anime adaptation.
This will be the first of the many joint original animation production project by the three companies.
Crunchyroll will stream the anime in more than 200 countries and territories, and WOWOW will stream the series in Japan.
WOWOW also released a statement to commemorate the partnership between the three companies:
“Through this partnership between the three companies, we will jointly plan, develop and produce an attractive TV anime series with a high degree of drama that can be enjoyed widely in Japan and around the world, while making use of the know-how and knowledge that each company has accumulated so far. increase. In addition to broadcasting and distribution on WOWOW, in collaboration with Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll, we will expand overseas to more than 200 countries and regions, mainly in North America, Europe, and Asia, and make movies, games, and goods. We will carry out multifaceted development such as and experience-based community measures to create a place for communication with fans.“
More information on the anime regarding the cast, staff and release date will be revealed at a later date.
Bye Bye, Earth novel was written by Japanese novelist and screenwriter Tow Ubukata, with art by Yoshitaka Amano. The novel was published in December 2000. Four other volumes of the novel was later released in 2007-2008, with art by Hyung-tae Kim.
Ryu Asahi adapted the novel into a manga, which was serialized Young King Ours. The manga ran from 2019 to 2022.
Other major works of Tow Ubukata include Mardock Scramble, Le Chevalier D’Eon and Heroic Age. He also did series composition for the Fafner in the Azure series, Ghost in the Shell: Arise, Psycho-Pass 2 and Psycho-Pass 3.
