Tokyo Celebrates Ash Becoming Pokémon World Champion After 25 Years

Ash Ketchum finally achieved his goal of becoming the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer in the latest episode of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys, which premiered in Japan on Nov 11, 2022. Ash’s moment of glory was aired on the big screen at Shibuya, Tokyo, with fans watching it in awe.

The 10-year-old Ash Ketchum (known as Satoshi in Japan) defeated Leon (known as Dande in Japan) after a tough match. The final blow was dealt by Ash’s Pikachu to Leon’s Charizard, and after 25 long years of the anime’s air date, the boy from Pallet Town won the Masters Eight Tournament of the Pokémon World Coronation Series, becoming the World Champion.

While the battle with Leon was his final one, he also defeated Cynthia, Steven, Iris, and Lance, who themselves were champions from other regions.

Fans who got to know the update, across the globe, were quite emotional, as a character they had been a fan of in their childhood, had finally achieved what he had set out to do.

Sarah Natochenny, who voices Ash in the English dub of the anime, said that she can’t wait to share the English dub of the episode where Ash becomes the champion, with the rest of the world.

With Ash having achieved his dream, the anime only has three more episodes left to air in Japan. However, the dubbed version airing in the United States is still some way off from the final episode and Ash becoming the World Champion.

Pokémon anime first premiered on TV Tokyo in April 1997. The anime franchise has seven sequential series, all based on an installation of Pokémon video game.

Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series is the twenty-fifth and current season of the Pokémon anime series, and the third and final season of Pokémon Journeys: The Series.
