The director of the upcoming Kagurabachi anime, Tetsuya Takeuchi, has acknowledged the weight of expectations following the series’ recent official announcement, stating, “there’s a lot of pressure.”

His comment was shared via the anime’s official X account as anticipation builds toward its April 2027 release.

In his comment Takeuchi reflected on his career trajectory, noting how unexpected the opportunity feels.

Who would’ve thought that I’d be directing a popular Shonen Jump anime after working as a key animator on Naruto back when I was just a newbie… you really never know what life has in store,” he said.

Emphasizing the core appeal of Kagurabachi, he added, “When you think of Kagurabachi, you think of katana! And more katana! Plus cool characters and intense drama!

While Takeuchi stated that he aims to faithfully capture those elements in the adaptation and deliver a show that both longtime fans of the manga and first-time viewers can enjoy, he also admitted that there’s a lot of pressure.

Kagurabachi has rapidly built a strong fanbase and industry buzz since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 by Takeru Hokazono.

The anime adaptation is being produced by Cypic, formerly known as CygamesPictures, with Shochiku and CyberAgent serving on the production committee.

So far, only the casting for protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira has been revealed, with Taihi Kimura taking on the role. Additional cast members have yet to be announced.
