The public screenings of Gekijō-ban Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie) at midnight on Friday, Dec 24, 2021, were increased to 58 after tickets for the movie sold out within minutes on the first day of sales.
The theatres had planned to screen the film at 28 screens in 14 theaters in Kyoto, Miyagi, Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido initially. However, the numbers gradually increased after fans showed up in large numbers.
TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku in Tokyo had only planned two screenings of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 originally, but the movie was eventually screened on eight screens at midnight.

About 15,000 people watched Jujutsu Kaisen 0 the Movie anime film nationwide at the earliest public screenings on Friday.
The visiting fans took photos prior to the screening, while holding character merchandise and exclaimed, “I’ve been waiting for this day!”, “I can finally watch it!”, “I’m about to cry before it starts…”
The film was released in Japan on Dec 24, 2021. Each audience member will receive a “Jujutsu Kaisen #0.5 Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School” booklet, while supplies last. The initial print run is 5 million copies and will have nine pages. The film will release in IMAX as well.
The film is based on Gege Akutami‘s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kōtō Senmon Gakkō (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School) manga prequel story, with MAPPA animating again and TOHO distributing.
The Jujutsu Kaisen television anime premiered in October 2020. The 24th and final episode of the anime ended in March 2021. Akutami launched the main manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018.
