The stage panel at AnimeJapan 2022 for Sword Art Online franchise launched a teaser for the Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk) movie. The movie is the second installment in the Sword Art Online The Movie-Progressive-anime film series. It is set to release this Fall season in Japan.
Along with the teaser, the panel also displayed a video commemorating the franchise’s 10th anniversary. It will also be hosting an event on 6th of November in Tokyo.
Subsequently, the panel also revealed at the AnimeJapan event a video for the first installment of the movie series, Sword Art Online The Movie- Progressive Aria of a Starless Night set to release on July 8.

The movie was released in standard as well as IMAX theatres in the USA and Canada on 3rd of December. Whereas it was released on 9th of December in Australia and New Zealand.
The movie was released in more than 40 countries and territories, globally. The film was screened in SEA region by Odex last year.
The first film was directed by Ayako Kohno at A-1 Pictures whereas Yasuyuki Kai was the action director. Kento Toya was appointed with designing of the characters and Yuki Kajiura with composing the music.
The series is based on light novel series Sword Art Online: Progressive by Reki Kawahara. It was launched in 2012 as the story is retold in a different manner with respect to Reki’s original SAO novels.
The story touches upon the journey of the protagonist Kirito through the floating Aincrad castle from the beginning.
The novel series is published in English by Yen Press along with two manga adaptations.
