Prior to the release of its first volume in the country, Yukinobu Tatsu’s Dandadan manga featured in an advertisement on a bus in Barcelona, Spain. The advertisement had the main characters from the series, Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura in his hybrid form.
The news came to light when Shonen Jump+ editor Shihei Lin tweeted about it along with a video in which the advertisement on the bus can be seen.
“The bus advertisement of Dandadan is running in Barcelona, Spain. If you live in Barcelona and you see this, you may think, ‘Oh, its Dandadan,” Lin wrote in his tweet.
Lin also asked people to start reading Dandadan, if they haven’t already, claiming that the manga is pretty famous in Spain.
The editor then went on to ask followers to share more pictures of the advertisement.
“If you can send me a picture [of the ad], I’ll share them with [everyone]. I am happy that you can read it overseas. LOVE Spain. LOVE Barcelona,” Lin wrote.
The advertisement is part of Norma Editorial’s promotional drive before the first volume of Dandadan manga releases this month in Spain. The comic book publisher, whose headquarters is located in Barcelona, had earlier announced that they have acquired the rights for publishing Dandadan in Spain.
Tatsu’s Dandadan, which has won multiple awards, began serialization in Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ service since April 2021, with its chapters collected into five tankōbon volumes as of May 2, 2022. As of July 2021, the manga had over 22 million views on the Shōnen Jump+ platform.
