The official website of Kakao Entertainment confirmed on Jan 21, 2025, that a live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling is currently in development.
The company’s Media Division is currently overseeing the project’s planning, development, and scriptwriting.
The live-action adaptation is part of Kakao Entertainment’s broader strategy to expand the Solo Leveling universe across multiple media platforms. This includes the currently airing anime and the ongoing success of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, a follow-up series that builds on the original world.
Kakao Entertainment, co-led by CEOs Kwon Ki-soo and Jang Yoon-jung, has emphasized the importance of Solo Leveling as a flagship IP for the company.
According to the studio, the original webtoon and web novel have garnered millions of readers worldwide. At the same time, the anime adaptation has topped viewership charts on platforms like Amazon Prime Japan and Netflix.
The Solo Leveling game, launched by Netmarble last year, has also excelled globally, reaching No. 1 in downloads in 141 countries and No. 1 in revenue in 21 countries, with Top 10 revenue rankings in 105 nations.
A representative from Kakao Entertainment stated, “Solo Leveling has solidified its place as a representative IP not just for Kakao Entertainment but for K-content globally. We will continue to invest in the IP to create a historic legacy. With the continuation of the original universe through Ragnarok, we anticipate boundless future expansion.”

Solo Leveling season 2 started airing on Jan 4, 2024. Crunchyroll is streaming the season in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India.
LiSA and Felix from South Korean boy band Stray Kids performed the opening theme song, “ReawakeR”.
A compilation film, titled Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, was released in the theatres in Japan on Nov 29. The film recaped key events from the anime’s first season, and also offer fans a sneak peek at the upcoming second season, featuring its first two episodes.
Solo Leveling season 1 produced by A-1 Pictures aired from January to March 2024.
The first season of the anime won Best Anime Series Award in the Astra TV Awards category.
Solo Leveling‘s anime has been adapted from the South Korean web novel of the same name written by Chugong.
It was serialized in Kakao’s digital comic and fiction platform KakaoPage beginning on July 25, 2016, and was later published by D&C Media under their Papyrus label since November 4, 2016.
The novel has been licensed in English by Yen Press.
A webtoon adaptation of Solo Leveling was first serialized in KakaoPage on March 4, 2018; it was illustrated by Jang Sung-rak (Dubu).
The webtoon’s first season concluded on March 19, 2020, and its second season was released from August 2020 to December 2021. Its individual chapters have been collected and published by D&C Media in eleven volumes as of June 2024.
A Korean drama adaptation is in development, and spin-off webtoon Solo Leveling: Ragnarok premiered in August 2024.
