Shuzo Oshimi’s The Flowers of Evil manga is receiving a new live-action television series premiering in April 2026. The series will air on TV Tokyo and stream exclusively on Disney+.

Paul Young (Star Wars: Visions Volume 2) will direct the series alongside Noboru Iguchi, who previously directed the 2019 live-action Flowers of Evil film. Keita Meguro and Shuho Takase are writing the scripts. It is produced by TV Tokyo and C&I Entertainment.

Fuku Suzuki and Ano will star in the lead roles as Takao Kasuga and Sawa Nakamura, respectively. This marks Suzuki’s first leading role in a TV Tokyo drama and Ano’s first time headlining a terrestrial TV series.

A new visual was revealed to commemorate the announcement.

Comments From Cast, Creator, and Producers:

Suzuki commented on the role, stating he feels honored to lead an adaptation that resonates so strongly with readers and recalls the emotional turmoil of student life. He noted that while Kasuga initially feels similar to him, the character’s transformation takes him into territory he has never portrayed before.

Ano recalled first reading The Flowers of Evil during a time when she felt overwhelmed and directionless, saying the experience left a strong, unsettling impression. She added that she never imagined she would one day portray Nakamura and approached the role with sincerity and gratitude.

Author Oshimi expressed enthusiasm for the new adaptation, saying he is eager to see how Suzuki and Ano interpret the characters.

More than a decade after the manga ended, being able to release it again as a drama is something rare and precious. From seeing his recent acting, I’m very excited to have Fuku Suzuki play Kasuga. I’ve always felt that Ano possesses the purity and rebellious spirit of Nakamura. I hope longtime readers and newcomers alike will enjoy the series.”

TV Tokyo’s Koichi Uruma highlighted the drama’s blend of discomfort, humor, and intensity, stating that Disney+ distribution allows the team to produce the series at a scale beyond a typical late-night TV Tokyo drama.

‘You piece of shit.’ ‘I’m not a pervert…’ As the original cover suggests, this is a drama adaptation of Oshimi-sensei’s hit series dealing with adolescence, sexuality, and the impulses of youth. While the story may seem extreme, the emotional swings of adolescence are something many can relate to. Through the emotional range of Suzuki and Ano, Kasuga and Nakamura’s complex master–servant dynamic is vividly realized. There’s comedy, seriousness, and scenes that will stir your emotions. With the Disney+ release, we’re able to create something beyond the scale of a typical late-night TV Tokyo drama. It’s still some time before April, but we announced it early because we’re so excited. Stay tuned for updates!

C&I Entertainment producer Hideyuki Wakuta added that the adaptation is set in 1998, capturing the pre-millennium anxiety of the era and marking the fifth major interpretation of Kasuga and Nakamura’s story after the manga, anime, stage play, and film.

Shuzo Oshimi’s The Flowers of Evil ran in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2014. The manga has surpassed 3.25 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions.
