Riki-Oh’s Tetsuya Saruwatari To Launch Manga Based On Moby Dick

The manga will run for only three issues.

The official website for Shueisha’s Grand Jump Mucha magazine announced on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, that manga author Tetsuya Saruwatari will launch a new manga mini-series based on Herman Melville‘s novel, Moby Dick. The manga titled Ahab will debut in the magazine’s next issue on June 21.

The plot of the manga follows whaling captain Ahab on his single-minded mission to wreak revenge on Moby Dick, the whale who robbed him of a leg on a previous voyage.

The three-issue manga will have a color opening page and will be featured on the front cover of the June issue.

Tetsuya Saruwatari is a Japanese manga artist. After dropping out of high school, he worked as an assistant to Hiramatsu Shinji and Motomiya Hiroshi. He made his debut as a solo manga artist with Umi No Senshi in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Saruwatari’s longest-running manga is the action comic Tough which has been serialized in Young Jump over a decade. Saruwatari also created Riki-Oh, a cult manga sensation featuring graphic martial arts fighting, which was adapted in a Hong Kong live-action film and Japanese OVA. Saruwatari illustrated ZIG, written by Takashi Nagasaki, for Shueisha’s Grand Jump in 2017.
