Quintessential Quintuplets Movie Sells One Million Tickets

The movie has also grossed over a billion yen in Japan.

The official twitter account of The Quintessential Quintuplets anime revealed that The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie has sold over one million tickets in Japan.

The new landmark was achieved within 26 days of the movie’s release.

“The number of viewers of The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie has finally exceeded one million,” the tweet read. “Thank you so much to everyone who came to the theaters!”

Last week, the franchise announced that The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie had grossed over one billion yen (USD 7.87 million) by selling 555,000 tickets. By doing so, it became the fourth highest grossing movie of the year behind Detective Conan The Bride of Halloween (8.6 billion yen), Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars 2021 (2.64 billion yen), and Crayon Shin-chan: Mononoke Ninja Chimpuden (1.88 billion yen).

The movie released in Japan on May 20,  debuting at #2 at the Japanese Box office, earning an astonishing 390 million yen (3.06 million USD) with 260,000 attendance on its first 3 days.

The film offered moviegoers a special bonus chapter titled, 122+1, that takes place after the original ending.

From the 2nd week of its premiere, on May 27, 5 types of bonus mini shikishi boards “School Uniform version” were distributed and handed over at random. Each of the shikishi had a newly drawn illustration of the Nakano sisters with their voice actress’s message.

From June 17, the bonus chapter of Quintessential Quintuplets (Volume 14.5) will be re-distributed to the moviegoers.

The Quintessential Quintuplets is a manga written and illustrated by Negi Haruba. It was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from August 2017 to February 2020. The manga’s chapters have been collected into fourteen tankobon volumes.

The manga received an anime adaptation by Tezuka Productions in 2019. A second season by Bibury Animation Studios followed in 2021. Both seasons had 12 episodes each. The 136-minute long movie serves as the conclusion of the series.

The Quintessential Quintuplets manga won the 43rd Kodansha Manga Awards in 2019.
