Psycho-Pass Anime Announces New Film, 10th Anniversary Project Details

A key visual for the upcoming film and a PV for the 10th anniversary was also revealed.

The official website of Psycho-Pass anime announced on Aug 14, 2022, that the franchise is receiving a new anime film as a part of its 10th anniversary project. The film is titled PSYCHO-PASS PROVIDENCE.

A new key visual for the upcoming film was revealed to commemorate the announcement.

Naoyoshi Shiotani will serve as the director for the Psycho-Pass Providence film at Production I.G.

More details are yet to be revealed.

Additionally, Tomokazu Seki, the voice actor for Kogami in the anime, is the ambassador for the 10th anniversary project, which is themed around ‘gratitude’. A new PV and visual for the project was also unveiled.

The 10th anniversary project, first off, includes a radio program , “PSYCHO-PASS Radio Public Security Bureau Criminal Division 24:00”.

The radio program, which was previously aired during the first season of the anime, will be revived and aired on the Internet radio station Onsen and Spotify starting September, on the second Friday of every month. It will be hosted by Kenji Nojima, the VA for Nobuchika Ginoza.

Secondly, a pop-up store, “Public Safety Bureau Detective Division Purchasing Department,” will be held at the Noitamina Shop & Cafe Theater in Tokyo from Sep 3, 2022, to Aug 31, 2023. The cafe will sell exclusive illustrations and collaborative menu.

They will also broadcast the first season of Psycho-Pass anime, as well as hold a birthday campaign for all 13 characters starting Aug 16, 2022.

A sale event, “PSYCHO-TOUR in LOFT,” which will tour each cities in Japan will also be held starting Nov 2, 2022. The tour will start with Aichi Loft Nagoya, and then Kyoto Loft, Fukuoka Tenjin Loft, Miyagi Sendai Loft, Osaka Umeda Loft, Tokyo Shibuya Loft, and Kanagawa Yokohama Loft

The tour will sell goods that feature the 10th anniversary main visual and illustrations by the character designer, Naoyuki Onda.

Last but not least, Psycho-Pass -Online Exhibition- will be launched on Dec 19, 2022, and will go on till Feb 28, 2023. The exhibition will feature popular scenes from the first three seasons of Psycho-Pass anime, and will sell newly drawn illustrations based on the series.

Psycho-Pass is a Japanese cyberpunk psychological thriller anime television series produced by Production I.G. It was co-directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and Katsuyuki Motohiro and written by Gen Urobuchi, with character designs by Akira Amano and featuring music by Yugo Kanno. The series aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block between October 2012 and March 2013.

Set in a dystopia of Sibyl System’s governance of Japan, the plot follows the young woman Akane Tsunemori. She is introduced as a novice Inspector assigned to Division One of the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division, in charge of solving crimes with latent criminals, Enforcers.

The series was inspired by several live-action films. Chief director Katsuyuki Motohiro aimed to explore psychological themes in society’s youth using dystopian storylines.

The first season of the anime garnered critical acclaim in both Japan and the West from critics praising the characters’ roles and interactions set within the dystopian environment. The animation has also been praised despite issues in latter episodes which required fixing in the DVD volumes of the series.

A second season aired between October and December 2014, with a feature film titled, Psycho-Pass: The Movie released in January 2015. In 2019, Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System premiered between January and March. A third season aired between October and December 2019, with a sequel film, Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector, released in March 2020.
