The recently published special chapter of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s Oshi No Ko manga hinted at the series taking place in the same universe as Akasaka’s other work Kaguya Sama: Love Is War.
The special chapter was published in Young Jump Heroine’s issue which released on Aug 10, 2022.
Warning: The following content contains spoilers from the chapter.
In the chapter, the identity of Ruby’s photographer is revealed as Kaguya Shirogane. This has prompted fans of the series to believe that both Oshi no Ko and Kaguya Sama take place in the same universe, and that Oshi no Ko is taking place after the events of Kaguya Sama.
The special chapter also confirms that Kaguya does get married to her long standing love, Miyuki Shirogane, and hence the change in her surname.
Yokoyari too asked fans if they had read the special chapter on her official twitter, with some responding that they were both surprised and overwhelmed by the connection between the two series.
However, there has been no confirmation from the author’s side that this plot is canon and that the two universes are indeed linked.
Oshi no Ko is a manga series written by Kaguya Sama: Love is War creator Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, who is author of Kuzu no Honkai. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020, with its chapters collected in eight tankōbon volumes as of June 2022.
The manga is getting an anime adaptation by Doga Kobo.
Daisuke Hiramaki will be directing the anime, while Saori Tachibana will serve as the assistant director. Series composition will be handled by Jin Tanaka and Kanna Hiramiya will be in charge of character designs.
MAL describes the plot of the manga as follows;
