Nippon Television Holdings announced in a press release on Thursday, March 10, 2022, that the company is entering a strategic collaboration with The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd to co-produce local language content for global audiences.
The contents will range from dramas, animations, and variety shows. It will be available on Disney+ for both Japanese and global audiences. More importantly, the content assets owned by Nippon Television Group and Disney will be utilized by each other.
To get things started, the latest season of the detective drama The Files of Young Kindaichi starring Shunsuke Michieda will premiere for the first time on Disney+ in Japan and worldwide. The drama will start airing on NTVHD on April 24, 2022.
In fact, this is the first time Nippon TV content will be offered to viewers worldwide through Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer platform.
To commemorate the premiere of the drama, Disney’s Managing Director, Carol Choi shared a few words. She said, “This is a perfect fit for Disney as we focus on stories that connect people across generations and places, and stories that move people. We look forward to more long-term collaborative opportunities with Japanese creators, so as to bring the world’s best stories and Japan’s creative excellence to the global stage.”

Disney started the video platform “Disney +” in 2019. Disney+ is the dedicated streaming home for movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, along with The Simpsons and much more.
