The official website of NieR: Automata anime, titled ‘NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a‘, revealed a new character PV for commander, along with more additions to the cast members on Oct 15, 2022.

A new key visual was also unveiled with the announcement.

Newly announced cast members along with their comments include:

Animation adaptation…I am deeply moved.
I was alone when I recorded the game, so it is very refreshing to be able to exchange dialogue with the cast members. The storyline is also going to be different from the game. Whether you have played the game or not, please look forward to it. I’m looking forward to it too!

I am so happy to be able to be involved in the work once again as Operator 6O.
When I read the script for the anime for the first time, I was moved once again that “NieR: Automata” is going to be adapted to anime…!

The YoRHa unit is forbidden to have emotions, but Operator 6O is a character who does not follow that rule at all, so I will not hide my excitement for the “NieR:Automata” anime adaptation! I’m really looking forward to seeing the beautifully animated 2B!

When I first heard about the anime adaptation, as a fan of the series, I had a mixed feeling of excitement and apprehension about how the world view would be expressed in the anime. I’m still a novice at this, but I’ll do my very best to work hard on my skills as an artist. Not only are the other cast members’ performances really wonderful, but everyone on the team has a lot of love for Nier, so please look forward to it!

Nier: Automata is a 2017 action role-playing game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix. It tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines.

In the game players take the role of these combat androids from the YoRHa units across an open world. The story requires multiple playthroughs, each unlocking additional story elements.

The plot of the anime is described as follows:

A small number of humans who escaped to the moon began a counterattack operation using <android> soldiers to recapture Earth. However, the battle falls into a stalemate in front of <machine lifeforms> that continue to multiply infinitely. As the ultimate weapon, mankind dispatches a new android <Yorha> unit to Earth. <2B>, who was newly dispatched to Earth, joins up with <9S>, an advanced investigator, and goes on a mission, but in the midst of that, he encounters a number of mysterious phenomena… This is the story of a lifeless android who continues to fight for humanity.

When rumors about the game’s anime adaptation had surfaced online, fans were skeptical about the development, arguing that the story of the game was too complex to be adapted properly into an anime.
